D850 - First impressionsI had a brief play with the new D850 yesterday at the Nikon launch event. Very impressive, with the AF system coping very comfortably with being able to quickly focus on dark subjects. Normally, one needs to find some points of contrast, but no longer.
Apart from the 45 megapixels, a couple of the things I found that were very interesting were the inclusion of in-camera square format shooting, and the out of camera skin tones were very reminiscent to me of when I was shooting (a very bloody long time ago) with Kodak VPS. I'm hopeful for a longer term loaner in the not too distant future ... g.

Re: D850 - First impressionsLooking forward to hearing your impressions of the image quality. 45 megapixels.....what was the D70....6 megapixels?

Re: D850 - First impressionsA 45 megapixel sensor? That would produce very large files, but hopefully with exceptional quality and sharpness. I think where the D850 will truly shine is when the pictures are printed.
Re: D850 - First impressionsYes, yes, and yes.
Still waiting for my review unit. g.

Here's the deal Gary. You fly to Coffs. I'll lend you the MX5 for the day. You lend me the D850 for the month. Sounds fair to me... President, A.A.A.A.A (Australian Association Against Acronym Abuse)

Re: D850 - First impressionsIs there anybody who has (or used to have) both the new Nikon D850 AND D3 or D4 or D5?
I am just wondering how similar the Autofocus in LOW LIGHT in the D850 compared to one of the Nikon D3, 4, 5 flagship cameras. Is AF same; accurate and fast for low light action, wedding reception dancing, etc? Thanks so much!
Re: D850 - First impressionsThe D850's AF is amazing. It can focus on a black cat in an unlit coalmine.
Well, kinda. It would not be fair to compare it with a D3 or D4 because of their age. D5 would be comparable, but the 850- is smaller and lighter. g.
