BALLONS, CANBERRA 20/3/05Hi
Four images from today at Balloons Aloft for Canberra Day Weekend. Took over 700 images yesterday and today. Difficult to tell which are the "best" but these are at least colourful: 1. 3 Balloons 2. Another 3 Balloons 3. 10 Balloons 4. Balloon Inflating Regards, Steve " There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs" Ansel Adams.
Well done Wombat,
I unfortunately I'm "impotent" at the moment with no D70. Could the 3 balloons be an entry in the "three" foto competition ? Cheers CD

IMO balloons always make for great colourful pics but in the case of pic 2 the combination works so well as to define colour without too much definition of subject thereby increasing interest.

Great shots Wombat.
Those mountain skies really boost the colours - No 3 is my favourite. Simon

Thankyou everyone for encouraging comments.
thing is - it happens all so quickly. One minute there are no balloons in the sky: the next the sky is full. The clear blue sky combined with the many colours helped. Plus what a great camera the D70 is. I like nos 2 and 3 myself, Steve " There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs" Ansel Adams.
Like 'em all Wombat, but could you please change the "signature" into something smaller and less obtrusive ! (Just being a pit picky here)

up up and away ...
Wombat, show us some more photos. Yes, and I'd also like to know what time you went to see the balloons. I'll try to get there before work, however without the D70, so no photos ! Cheers CD
I was in Canberra on Sunday, and apparently not far from those damn balloons, but do you think I saw them.....grumble, grumble.......
....nicely done. "Sometimes when you are sad Poko, it's good to hug the monkey."
Great shots there Wombat. You've managed to pick up the colours nicely. Looks like the weather on Sunday was much better than Saturday morning.
I got up early on Saturday to take a few pics. I had it all planned out: I'd go down to the Acton Penisula (at the back of the National Museum) overlooking the Lake, with the floating balloons over Commonwealth bridge, backlit from the sun rising in the East. I only managed to get 3 things: - the privledge of getting up early - harassed by a security guard at the NMA - cold and misable from the icy wind off the lake Wasn't the best weather for photos (or ballooning for that matter!). Overcast and gusty. Maybe better luck next year. I'd love to go down to the launch area in front of Old Parlt. House with a wide-angle at day break when they're inflating the balloons.
I agree with Ozimax!Great photo's wombat, well composed with vibrant, bright colours that aren't oversaturated. No.3 is my fave, but I also like 1.
I do however wholeheartedly agree with Ozimax in that your choice of signature is too distracting for me.
Thanks for all the comments.
I actually went 2 days - Saturday and Sunday - got some good shots on Saturday, however, it was overcast. Sunday was sunny and nice blue sky. I arrived about 6:30 on Sunday just in time to see the the balloons being inflated. The lcoation is great - the balllons take off and go west so there is not bright sun in your eyes. Will fix the signature - I agree it messes with the photo. I have some more photos to show and when I get time I will load them Regards, Steve " There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs" Ansel Adams.
