Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Cool,

I love Kookaburras and would like to get a shooting opportunity like you had. I like the photos. Do you like to tell a little bit more ?
What time of day were these photos done ?
How far away were the birds ?
Short of me trying to lookup exif, please tell us anything else of significance.

Cheers
CD

Hi Christian...

Sorry for not including more detail initially...
All of the pics were taken at about 4pm on the balcony of our holiday cottage in Blackheath... The first 2 shots (on the balcony) were about 2 metres range... the others (in the tree) were about 5 metres away...

All shots were taken with the Sigma 70-300D APO.

If you follow this link and after selecting the photo in question, you can click on More Photo Details to see limited EXIF information for each shot...
Cheers, John

Your fantastic candids of the Kookaburras reminds me of the old Aussie bush song i learnt when i was a kid.

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he,
Laugh Kookaburra, laugh Kookaburra,
Gay your life must be.

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Eating all the gumdrops he can see,
Stop Kookaburra, stop Kookaburra,
Leave some gums for me.

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,
Counting all the monkeys he can see,
Stop Kookaburra, stop Kookaburra,
That's no monkey, that's ME!!!

A classic. I wonder if they teach this to kids nowadays.

Great pics too.
Steve.

Apparently so... I just read out the first line to mini-Leek and she proceeded to sing the whole song...
