If you already have the new D70S, here is the user manual for it. Same megapixels, tiny improvements. If you have a D50, use this manual: http://www.nikon-asia.com/downloadstuff ... Manual.pdf And for the D70X: .
How did you come across these Glen? Thanks, I'm off to see if the links are still active. Nikon have the habit of putting things up online and then retracting them shortly thereafter until the official launch...
I have downloaded the D70S manual, can't even find the tiny differences Matt mentions. Although I probably haven't looked all that hard.

GregB, What are you going to do? Replace your old D70 manual? and PP the D70 logo of your D70 with the letter "S" Birddog114

The greatest medium for subliminal advertising is the Internet.
At the moment, Nikon Asia is down which only adds to what the Nikon PR guys want us to think, ah hell we made a mistake in putting THAT info on the web All controlled, because they know the word will spread like wildfire, and that’s exactly what they want Chris

Have a look on Montreal. It should have completed the DL by now, as should the D70s manual. g.

And I'm guessing that it's probably not legal for us to host it... now there's a way to boost registrations! (Like we really need that...)

That would be correct; we do not hold the copyright, nor permission to host it. g.

Yeah, but what fun would that be?

A quick look shows the D50 is basically the same as the D70 with some differences:
- Uses SD cardsinstead of CF - Supports iTTL but cannot be used as a master flash without SB800 - Has new AF-A mode (like recent film cameras) which automatically selects between AF-S and AF-C based on whether the focus is moving - 2.5fps continuous, 1/4000 fastest shutter speed - Supports USB2 Hi-speed - Auto ISO mode now split into ISO Auto and ISO Control options for better control. - A few less custom functions - No viewfinder grid lines The manual has a AF-S 18-55 f/3.5-f5.6 lens (lens hood not included). I guess this will be the new kit lens to cut down on costs. Mark
Perhaps Nikon knew and heard the whinne from us, they want to make one of the special cam for the wife, so she will be happy to tag along the meets or workshops and appreciate why or what all the lusts are? then will be another one comes out the closet for the teenage to use while Mum and Dad enjoy Birddog114

I think you are dead right Birddog, just waiting for them to announce the D100 replacement for those of us who have woken up and realised they owned ten times the value of the camera in lenses Otherwise a camera for everybody.
better be a good price points for those cripples...
I love my viewfinder lines... I use them with almost every shot! SD... erk... New page

SD is a very good option.
A lot of us in the computer world are anticipating SD to replace CF eventually. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

SD has its limitation of speed and storage unlike the CF. Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
Remember that SD's previous incarnation, MMC, had the same.
I wouldn't doubt a future upgrade of SD as a possibility, but regardless, a combination of both CF and SD in a camera is a stronger likelihood than SD taking over CF. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

CF for the boy and SD for the girl Is it fair No more argument! Nikon knew that long ago. Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
Other than being smaller, what real advantage is there with SD? CF is small enough for me and allows for more storage space.
I'm with you MHD, not having grid lines is painful.. The new kit lens isn't very attractive either. I imagine with the reduced features it should be significantly cheaper. It should still be a capable camera though. It will be interesting to see how Nikon price the D50. Mark
It makes me wonder what the build quality of the D50 will be like... if it's anything like the F50 or F55, I'd expect to have an early-1000 price mark.

The body diagrams in the manual look pretty close to the D70, unless Nikon switch to some nasty plastic I imagine the build will be fairly similar to the D70. A price around $1k for the body would have a pretty huge impact on the DSLR market. I hope Nikon never releases a DSLR that feels like the F55-F75 *shudder*. Mark

No probs, I looked around earlier and sourced one myself . The main difference appears to be support for a wired remote. There are probably other improvements in the fine print somewhere, but I don't have time to diff a 200 page manual . Mark

Many laptops come with a built-in SD slot. Not so many include a CF slot. SD will become faster and cheaper over time. It already has, of course, and this will only grow. And you can get a combo SD/WiFi card. If the D50 will permit the installation of drivers ... g.

CF cards are valid PCMCIA drives, you just need a simple adapter to map the pins. That's pretty much the same thing (given that most laptops have PCMCIA slots). Mark
