Kit LensI apologise in advance if this question has been asked many times but until i'm used to some of your terminology i'll be forced to ask from time to time. What is the kit lens I hear people making reference to? Is it the one that comes with the D70 package? While we're there, what is a gitzo?

Re: Kit Lens
The kit lens is the Nikkor AF-S 18-70/f.3.5- 5.6 and it's bundled with the D70 camera. The Gitzo is the brand of tripod. Birddog114

Re: Kit Lens
It was the original lens which came with the D70, I beleive there are deals out at he moment which include different lenses. The general feel on the forum is you are best to buy the D70 with the kit lens as it is a very solid lens. W00DY Andrew

hehe thats Cool Rotty!
In my opnion the kit lens is one thing that sets the D70 apart from the rest... Pros: Sharp (not pro level sharp but much sharper than its price tag suggests) Internal focusing: The lens does not rotoate when focusing or zooming... VERY usefull when using polarisers or grad ND filters Ultrasonic motor: Focuses fast and quiet 18mm wide angle is very nice Good solid build... this is a real lens Comes with lens hood Cons: A fair amount of geometric distortion (but you have to pay real money to get a lens without it) And other things associated with not being a pro lens (no f/2.8, no VR, no rubber seal on mount to keep crud out) New page

Re: Kit Lens
And while we are here, Birddog, why is it f3.5-5.6 as max aperture? Is it max aperture at extreme focal lengths, i.e. 3.5 at 18 mm and 5.6 at 70 mm? Thanks Alex
