Stormy Seas continuedHere are some more from that morning. Thanks to all
who contribute to this website. The transition to DSLR has been made a lot easier with all the info and advice available here!! Cheers Ben http://www.benmcdarmont.tk
Hi Ben,
I like the first photo. How come the first photo has only sand on the beach and the second one has plants ? I hope this is not a completely stupid question. Cheers CD
I love the first shot.. there's more contrast IMHO.
That's the type of shot I want to try and get. Might need to go out to the beach one morning and practice. Geoff http://www.gleff.com

Fabulous shots there, ozbenny!
I must say, I too prefer the first. I think the grass in the second is a little distracting, and the colours of the first are slightly warmer IMO You have done well with the stormy sky, though!
I like those shots a great deal, Ben, especially the first.

I really like these shots but I don't know if the title Stormy Seas is acurate.
The sky looks stormy but the sea actually looks very calm (especialy in the second shot). However still very nice shots and I think I prefer the first one a little more than the second. W00DY Andrew
Nikon D3 and lot's of Nikon stuff!!
yeah the first one leads us into the frame a little more gently. Oooh, I only wish the white washy wave in the top left hand corner wasn't cropped. that's picky I know, but it would make this pic absolutely flawless.
Nice style
Can we have some detail on your settings and technique please - obviously a longer exposure, but did you use any filters, etc.? Thanks for sharing I really do like the first one. *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Questions..Thanks for all the comments..
Here are some answers to your questions: 1) Christian, the first shot was taken at the water's edge. The second one was looking at the same headland but set back in the sand dunes. 2) Rokkstar, heres the exposure info: Nikon D70 2005/03/25 18:44:40 RAW (12-bit) Lossless Image Size: Large (3008 x 2000) Lens: 18-70mm F/3.5-4.5 G Focal Length: 18mm Exposure Mode: Aperture Priority Metering Mode: Center-Weighted 6 sec - F/13 Exposure Comp.: -0.3 EV Sensitivity: ISO 200 Optimize Image: Vivid White Balance: Auto -2 AF Mode: AF-C Flash Sync Mode: Not Attached Color Mode: Mode IIIa (sRGB) Tone Comp: Auto Hue Adjustment: 0° Saturation: Normal Sharpening: Auto Image Comment: Noise Reduction: OFF 3) Dave, I know exactly what you mean about the cropping of the top wave. I didn't want too, but in the original (see below) there was a dirty great heap of seaweed in the frame that I had to get rid of.. I should have seen it when I took the pic! Actually, why don't I just clone out the seaweed.. 4) Sheepie, I just set the camera to Aperture priority F13, composed on the tripod, and waited for a wave to roll in. I had a UV filter on, that's all. 5) Neeper, no photoshopping of grass, just the seaweed , see original above. 6) Nick, they were taken at Forresters Beach on the NSW Central Coast. Its a top beach, quite rugged. Good for surfing, fishing, walking, not for swimming though. http://www.benmcdarmont.tk
Yes indeed, so silky smooth and a terrific pic. Thanks for posting the expanded one as well. I think the finished product is perfecto!
