O/T The lost of RAN Sea King with 9 Service men and womenIts callsign was: " SHARK ZERO TWO"
We are praying for the lost of our defence Men and Women, who lost their life on the crash of a Sea King from The HMAS Kanimbla last night in Indonesia, while they're ferrying an emergency medical team to the village of the earthquake area of Nias. Very, very sad. I feel so sorry for their families... I hope that they gain some comfort from knowing that their loved ones died while trying to help others...
Cheers, John

What a tragedy.
I especially feel for their families - this is the same day my brother and his navigator were killed in an F-111 crash in Tenterfield in 1987. The loss of young men and women serving their country can never be underestimated. They and their loved ones are in our prayers. Simon

My thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost overnight...
In the case of the Pope, a great leader has been lost - one who was able to reach many more than the people he led. In the case of the Kanimbla incident, it shows that our forces are serving as much in peacetime as they are in war. My thoughts are especially with our friends on this forum who have links with either of the above. God bless. *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
The sadness things are they were on their way home after 3 months of TDY in Banda Aceh to help the Tsunami Victims in SEA, but then diverted back into the region to help the new victims of the recently earthquake.

I've only just switched onto the news and read of the Pope's passing. At least his suffering is over.
You're right Sheepie - he was a great leader. It was said of him yesterday that he was the most seen person in history which mirrors his philosophy of getting out to the people. Our young naval personnel have a wonderful travelling companion on their journey.... Simon

This is the nature of these wonderful brave Australians. They are committed to serve and to help wherever it's needed. They have proved time and time again that their skill, enthusiasm and most of all compassion know no bounds. They died doing what they love and will always be remembered as the heroes they are. Simon

I too was very saddened to hear of the passing of His Holiness, although expected, it is very much a shock when it actually happens. He was a great leader of people and the faith, and a great man and representative of God.
I echo the sentiments of previous posts regarding our servicemen and women, brave people completing a task to help others. I am sure we all pray for them and their families. Nigel
Our Pope leaving this world is a great loss but he was able to say, as Jesus said from the cross "Father it is completed, into your hands I commend my spirit". Please God we that are left will be able to utter the same words when we are called to our eternal home.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the loved ones lost in such a sudden reality. These service men and women have given their lives for others and so Jesus would say to each one of them "There is no greater love than to lay down your life for another." Geoff M

If you want to send the personnel of the Kanimbla a message of support you can send an e-mail to messagestothetroops@defence.gov.au
I'm sure if it is marked clearly, then it will find its way to the ship... Cheers, John

I am deeply saddened by this accident and the loss of some of my collegues and friends.
My heart goes out to their families and loved ones, the crew of Kanimbla, some of whom are good friends of mine, and to all those who witnessed the crash, and those Indonesians in Nias where the helicopter was going to provide medical assistance. It's times like these i realise that it's a dangerous occupation and even though we never expect it to happen to us, it's always a possibility and is in the back of our minds. Lest we forget. Steve.

This is indeed a sad day for all Australians.
Indeed - "Lest we forget" are three very sacred words dear to our citizenry as we experience our loss of those who died in service of our country and as we give support to those left behind. My thoughts also go to the Catholic community among us for the loss of the Pope. Graham
This is a truly sad event.
Steve... mine and my families thoughts are with you at this time as we know you have a close connection. -Mark Last edited by xerubus on Sun Apr 03, 2005 7:10 pm, edited 1 time in total.

My condolences to the families and friends of the service men and women who died during the awful tragedy of the chopper crash.
It is tragic that these people died fullfilling their duties trying to help when redirected from coming home. My feelings are going out to the families, partners and friends who have lost their loved ones. CD

Unlike so many celebrity heroes in our day (eg movie, sports stars), these 9 were indeed true heroes, serving their country and paying the ultimate price. Vale. We will remember you.
