Beautifully shallow DOF with 1.2

At todays meet Birdy's new 58mm 1.2 NOCT (for nocturnal) lens arrived. This manual lens is unobtainable, a coveted collectors piece with matching prices and features a hand polished aspherical front element. It is designed to be used in low light situations, hence the nocturnal designation. If you look at the image below, taken at 1/400 @ F1.2, where the meeting of the stem to the glass was the focal point, you can see the front lip is out of focus and most everything behind the glass. There were some strong highlights from reflections on a glass behind but the nice boke of this lens handles that with ease.

A rare treat to see one of these in the flesh.

That is a gorgeous piece of glass - pun intended. For such a simple shot, that lens has made the photo a virtual playground for the eye. Everywhere you look there is something to tantalise and tease.

I could not believe that I can buy it at a very slim slice of dough, mint condition in and out.

He did not know much IMO, I think 50/50, and he just bought a D70 from me last week. He mounted the lens on the D70 but asked me why the camera and the lens did not focus, I switched to M mode for him. Then I let he tried my 70-200VR, he was very surprised with the fast AF and other things.

He showed me the lens and I was like brand new! he said his grandpa passed it to his father and he father never know how to use it or will use it for? Someone want to pay for it $1200.00 that why he based on that price and want to swap for a 70-200VR.

I've seen one when I was in Japan early 04 and one of my friends in the US has one, I shot with it once on the F5 and fell in love with it, friend of mine bought it for US$2500.00 in Sept. 03.

Yes, mint 50/f1.2 and 35/f1.4 and I got them + 24/f.2 & 105/ f1.8
All AI-S MF. I'm more than happy

I'm tired of AF lenses and would like to go back to shoot MF lenses with the D2x and a light meter

P.S: And I expect I'll learn more from using MF.

You don't need a light meter with the D2x and manual focus Nikkor lenses.

Just enter the lens focal length and aperture into the Non CPU data menu and you get centre weighted, spot and colour matrix metering and even get the aperture readout in the viewfinder and LCD display.

I knew that but I don't want to use anything on the its menu, even the D2x light meter, just play dumb, guest and test with the light meter to see what can I learn.
I've found out the variation between the sekonic 358 light meter with the light meter of D2x, D2h, D100, D70 on the same lens, subject and lighting.
