Candles...

Postby Geoff on Wed Apr 06, 2005 12:30 am

An image I took last year as we were burning the candles in for the top of a casket. We took an array of photos of these candles, I quite liked this one but I would have preferred to have them exactly in alignment. Any critiquing welcome.

Geoff - I really like this shot and my only suggestion would be to clone the table further so that the whole image includes the table instead of the break towards the top of the image :D

Could you slip a pure white tablecloth under the candles? :)

Maybe then lift it up where the table ends so that you have a pure white background?

Seriously, what Chris suggests.

Perhaps I would have liked to have seen this from a lower angle too.

I think you may be right birddog.

However, very nice image. I agree, Geoff, that perfect alignment of the candles would improve it.

Nice shot Geoff! I like the use of DOF on this one, but maybe reducing depth of field further would be better? (Just nit picking now really :))

Geoff, this shot has got a lot more potential, I really like it.

Maybe extracting onto a black background or something like that ?

Mic.

The wax in them really make it as well.

Cool,

The third candle in would make a good image unto itself I think.

It's an interesting image and interesting problem, with lots of good suggestions. One that comes to my mind would be to shoot from a slightly lower perspective, with shallow DOF and focus on the first candle. All the following candles would be progressively higher and more OOF, to infinity. :?

I agree with the shallower DOF. Maybe use Dooda's suggestion and focus in on the 3rd candle.

Great pic but shallower DOF would be nice :) Good ol' p/shop to the rescue.

I esp like the first candle 'cos i'm a sucker for reflections :)
