PRAYING MANTIS.

Hello All,

This is my friend Errol the 5 legged Praying Mantis. I found him injured in my underground carpark where I live, I captured him for tonights Photo shoot.

Put him in a White bowl, got my Nikkor 105 Micro out, Sb 800 in Remote Mode, F: 16 , 60th Sec.

Very hard to Focus on his little eyes, tomorrow night I'll try and get in closer while I have him imprisoned working for me as a low paid model.

Any hints on how I can get him a bit more Crisp ?

Thanks, Mic. ( Mantis Imprisoner )

animal cruelty.......

umm, deep fry in egg batter?

As it is, the head area looks very sharp on my monitor. The image looks fine to me, the way it is, except for the circles in the bowl. :)

The closer you get, the more difficult the focus and more shallow the DOF. Isolating the head as much as possible, will reduce the OOF areas of the body and give your image a higher perception of overall sharpness.

The levels were much better on the first one (maybe try increasing the saturation a touch? .. or what about a black and white "infared look"). And the rings on the bowl are annoying. Maybe try a softer reflective surface like a styrofoam cup? Sharpness looks ok for me too, i find with macro that is moving getting razor sharp images takes a bit of luck.

My attempts at adjusting the levels (and a b&w quickie)

I like the first pic the best, Mic. His eyes just stare at you  !

Nice colours, and a cute little bugger! Shame about his missing leg. Do you pay amputees well for modelling work?? Would like to see him in 5 heels and a bit of lippy tonight perhaps?

Great find, though! I should've photographed the scorpion I saw last year, but decided it was better to squash it......(since it was in the bedroom)

I love it! Nothing 'stuffy' about this forum!

Maybe we could take up a collection to buy Errol some micro crutches.
