Postby Rags on Wed Apr 06, 2005 10:00 pm

Hi folks,

My first post on this forum. I am a Nikon man down to my toe nails, still shooting my 22 year old F3, through later models, all the way to my new D70. Living in India, my passion is wildlife photography.

Owning 5 lenses ( 3 Nikkors), I am about to splurge on a 80-200/2.8 lens and unable to decide between the Sigma APO HSM 70-200/2.8 and the Nikkor 80-200/2.8 ED...

Howdy Rags,

I think you're our first member from India - welcome! Looking forward to seeing some of your pics - maybe you've got some of the cricket?

Cheers

G'day Rags,

Can't help you with the lenses as I haven't used 'em but glad you could join us and look forward to some of your images, especially wildlife stuff as I'm a bit of an animal nut :)

Cheers.

Welcome Rags...

I'll leave it to others to comment on the two lenses but I would like to welcome you to the forum... We're a friendly bunch of people with a healthy sense of humour...

I'm really looking forward to seeing some photos from your part of the world... Don't be too shy to post some images in the Image Critique section, we don't bite...
Cheers, John

Hi Rags, don't be afraid to give us plenty of curry! ...(pardon the pun but I mean this endearingly). Post some shots soon. Close ups of cobra's will be a new thing here if you've got em! ps you can only post cricket shots if the Aussies are winning!!

Rags - welcome

Both lenses you mention are very good - I personally have the Sigma 70-200 and could not be happier.

Yes please, lets see lots of pics from your part of the world :D

Hello Rags...I echo the above welcomes...I also would LOVE to see some of your work!! Can't comment on either of the lenses but just wanted to say hi. Leek said we had a 'healthy' sense of humour? That's subjective :P stick around to find out for yourself and happy image posting!

Excellent, our first (I think) member from the subcontinent!

Cant wait to see your pics...
Oh and my own personal preference is for the 80-200... a real gem (if you can not afford to go that extra mile to the 70-200VR)

Hi again Rags, If you look on the main page, under "image critiques and forums" you will find a "sticky" that Stubbsy has written to tell you how to do this. I have not been here too long and it took a bit of work to get it done the first time but now it's a breeze.

Thanks again, folks. Already feeling at home ! Not much of a fan of cricket ( weird for an Indian, but I hate the hype around our cricket 'stars'). More into target shooting, motor racing and football. See, I said I'm weird..

Will check out the link where I'll get to post images and that will be done over this weekend. Watch this space ! You wont regret it !!!!

Otherwise, I am still shooting jpeg, cos my computer slows down like hell every time I try to dump some 20 RAW pics. I play with PS release 6 and now 7/ and it's one helluva a darkroom. Especially as I once used to dev and print B&W's at home. The smell of hypo and D-76.. Sheer fragrance !!!
