Nup. Next to cease using the lens and store in a dust free environment. I guess another way of looking at it is, it's sucked out the dust from the mirror chamber (potentially settling on your CCD) and into the lens. Lessor of two evil - dust on the front lens elements don't show on photos. (also, seeing how you have them on your front element, imagine how much you have on the intermediate elements you can't see).
yeah.. some searching around (after I made the post ) shows that it is a common occurance...
That is why the pro lenses are internal zoom (*mmmm*) New page

I have some Nikon lenses with me around 20 years but did not have dust in it and mostly they're expensive in Pro range, perhaps the kit lens is not the same standard built of the pro range.

Yeah! forget the 17-55Dx, the AF-S 28-70 is far better built and super Pro zoom lens Birddog114

I would be very suprised if that dust was inside your kit lens. They are pretty well sealed up. Check the rear element and give it a blow out. Is the dust still visible at f/4 an f/22? Where are you seeing this dust...on your images or through the viewfinder, or on the lens itself?
Regards
Matt. K
I have the same problem with the kit lens. I have one small hair (fibre) somewhere in the middle element. Doesn't affect the photos. I worried before but since I can't see the difference in the photos, I forgot about it.
Cheers Alex
