Hammersmith PalaisBack in the days when TV was crap, no Gameboy, computers or digital cameras one had to find enjoyment through another medium.
The Palais de Dance was where you met girls, had a few drinks and lived the life. The Hammersmith Palais was one of the more famous dance halls. This was shot on Kodak slide with the Nikkormat and transferred digitally with a slide scanner. Comments welcome. Black and white with a twist Original in colour Chris

Fantastic Chris. I bet the place hasn't changed a bit since then too

I agree. Great stuff, I like the one on the right mostly because I have a bias against BS's with splashes of color (when I was in college every girls dorm room ever had cheezy BW pics of a toddler with a blue cap and yellow flowers etc, sorry). In any case, it's fun checking out your old pics, I bet you're having a really good time with it.
Seconded... How about a gallery on your site Chris? Cheers, John

I prefer the leftmost one Chris, and I do like it a lot.
The RH one seems to have lost some shadow detail somewhere along the way ... One interestig observation though, and does anyone else get this effect? Looking at the two images side by side, they seem to be different images, of different roads (or different views of the same road) with the one on the RH side going in a different direction (at a different angle) to the other. It's clearly just an optical illusion/perception thing, but just the same ... g.

The version on the right has a much warmer feeling for me, although I'm forced to admit that it's lost some of the shadow details.
It's obvious visually that it holds good memories, Or... is that just because I've now read its back story?! Keep 'em coming, Chris. We ARE enjoying them along with you. Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now.
Glen - I prefer the left one too - it invokes the other side of the 60’s
Killa - Unfortunately London has lost a lot of appeal it had back in those days MCWB - many thanks Dave - I tend to agree with you but what I wanted was to show a dark side of the 60’s but the hope of having some fun by showing the warmth of the local Palais through a little colour John - I have many more slides to scan but will look at putting up a gallery when I have finished Gary - yes an amazing optical illusion - I tried a contast mask on the colour version (which I then converted to the B&W version) but it did not have the same feel as the darker colour version Steve - because these are scanned slides the noise factor in shadows (in colour) is over the top hence the B&W being lighter than the colour.
