What would you recommend???I have a friend who is going to buy a point and shoot digital camera.
They don't want to spend much more than $500 - $600 dollars and are more interested in good quality images rather than megapixels, in other words they would rather print out great 6x4 images than decent 8x10 images. I don't know to much about the smaller point and shoot cameras so I was wondering what everyone would recommend. I know they have been looking at the Canon A85 but again I don't know much about them so can't really comment. Any advice or recommendations would be most welcome. Cheers, W00DY PS: it doesn't have to be a nikon Andrew

Re: What would you recommend???
But Nikon is still a good choice. Seriously, anything by Canon or Nikon within the price range they're looking at would be ideal. I'd also happily suggest Olympus, but they're the only brands I'd be recommending. I would not recommend Sony under any circumstances, and I'd basically try to steer them away from anything else. The key is - as it is with the D70 - the glass through which the image is made. Stick with someone who makes good glass, and doesn't use a proprietary storage format - and they'll be fine. g.

As others have said, you can't go past a Canon P&S. We have the A40, and were really happy with it (although the wife has now admited she is much more happy with the output from the D70!).

parents have the A85... it takes a nice image... good access to controls (A, S, iso)

Sound good to me Sheepie,
Try to get the wife into the game so you can lust more gears and borrow her D70 with new lenses go shooting. Good ideas! Birddog114

Thanks to everyone that has replied... I didn't mean it COULDN'T be Nikon and I am glad we all had good things to say about another manufacturer.
Birddog - I'll let you know once she decides... She is actually going overseas this weekend so she might want it before then, in which case she can purchase it Duty Free... Thanks for your kind offer once again though. W00DY Andrew

What do U mean "DUTY FREE"? No more duty paid on photographic gears, remember? She can claim back the GST that she paid, once she passed the Immigration Check point at the International AP. Say: she paid $550.00 for a camera then she get $50.00 back, duty free only applied to other items as cigarettes, perfumes, clothing etc... She has the right to purchase and use it within 30 days prior to her departure. and she can buy anywhere she want, and show the receipt & fill up the application at the AP. Birddog114

I've a s5000 Fujifilm thats pretty good, 10x optical is great. There is a new s5500 out that is 4mp and 10x optical, it replaces the s5000.
My s5000 has been excellent, but time for d70. MATT
