Bye, bye LondonTaken with a Nikon F as slides. Shot just prior to my leaving London in December 1973 for Sydney. Late afternoon (around 4pm) night approaches, a light covering of snow and extremely cold.

Chris,
This is 4pm, what is the light like at 5pm . BTW: I am looking at this on a 'LCD Screen' and the snow looks purple/lavendar. I do apologise, as I am colour blind as well. Besides all of the foregoing, I do like the shot as it has an 'eerie' feel about it. fozzie
When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.
White reflects light, given the sky color and stuff it probably does have a purple tinge to it (no you're eyes aren't seeing things).
That's about right Fozzie. I was in the UK in Feb, if you saw my photo of Whitby that was taken at about 4-4.30pm We'd just finished a walk at 3.30pm and light was falling fast and I basically got in the car and drove like a madman to Whitby over the North Yorkshire moors. Darryl (aka Kipper)

Another great photo that reflects my youth Chris...
However. I think that you might be filtering these historic shots a little harshly... I for one would like to see a lot more of them... In fact I think you've inspired me to start digging out a few of my negatives for the same treatment... Watch Out!!! Cheers, John

Fozzie you are right, there is a purple tinge to the snow. This is a reflection of colour slide film shot in the northern hemisphere under certain lighting conditions - I am glad that old photos can give great memories of times gone past.
This was shot just outside the house I lived in - my rent was £4.00 per week - today rents in that area (near Hammersmith) are in the hundreds! Chris

Amazing stuff. I stayed with a friend in Hammersmith sleeping on the loungeroom floor for a month in 1989. It was a two bedroom flat and you could'nt swing a cat in it. I know the rent even back then was astronomical! More pics please!
