Remote Control for D70

Just wanted to know has anybody used anything besides the original remote for the d70. If so what type and where do I get one.

I got one like <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=64345&item=7507866997&rd=1">this</a> for $10 on ebay and it is working great. Took 5 or 10 minutes to program but you only have to do that once. I have used several times and it is small and handy, especially for night work that I have tried.

I was thinking the same thing as Birddog. It's not like the Nikon remote is expensive.

People thinks they save their monies over genuine and third party products, the genuine remote is more compact and slim, IMHO for 5 or 10 bucks extra i go for the genuine one.

I share your view Birdy and Neeper; not that I begrudge anyone trying to save a few bucks. I would have gladly fronted up to my local Jaycar emporium and parted with 20 well-earned dollars if there were more advantages than just saving a couple of dollars.

Some may find the genuine remote hard to get and this may be a reason for going with the Jaycar product. I initially wondered whether the Jaycar may have had a greater range than the Nikon, hence justifying having it in one's kit, but I've since learned there isn't any difference between the two in that regard.

I've got the Nikon remote and I'm happy with it.

I've got genuine Nikon RC and when I've bought it, it was 40 aussiebucks (yeah, Iwasn't member of this forum that time! ) Compact and very well built, very comfortable in use. If I'll lose this one I'll go after genuine again. I could save some money on Sigma 12-24 which is 300 bucks cheaper than Nikon 12-24 but saving 10-20 dollars buyng things from Jaycar is not a good idea, IMHO

Is this something you have Birddog? Not that I have done much searching for it, but my local rip off camera store charges about $40.00 from memory for this remote.........and your smilling face is much more pleasant than theirs!

In around September or so last year when I posted that thread "The Elusive & Expensive Remote..."

... I had been to several camera shops, none had the Nikon remote, it was on back order
(and all orders were spoken for, hence Elusive) and I was told variously that it
would cost between $40 and $55 (hence Expensive). So you couldn't get one, and it
was expensive.

Meanwhile, the Jaycar shop had the TV Key Chain Remote available, on the shelf, for $9,
with all the functionality of the ML-L3, it is small, it was available, and it was less than a
quarter of the price.

The context of the situation at that time is important to the story. If it was a matter of getting
it for $20, or getting the ML-L3 for $33 from Birdy, the story would be different. BTW, the jaycar still works like a dream

Ouch!! Those remotes are only $25CAD (about $25.50AUD) here in retail stores.

Sorry I needed the remote in a rush (less than a day's notice) as I was going away I'm not saying the genuine Nikon remote is bad or anything...I needed the remote quickly.

Yeah, funny I bought mine for 18$ at Lens and Shutter. Had no idea if it was a good deal or not, just figured I needed it. Afterwards I though "I wonder if I got ripped off?" This was back in September.

Had anyone found that they have to be on one side of the camera to use it. When I was doing a portrait of our family, I was standing on the right side and it wouldn't work. I thought that was weird.

I have a Tungsten T2 Palm Pilot and I stumbled across a virtual remote that works for the D70, so I use this. I figured I'd put the $30 odd towards something else....

Of course, it is a little larger than the OEM remote, but it comes in useful for other purposes. Perhaps I should see if there is a Palm OS NEF viewer so I could view the pics straight off the D70's memory card....pity the T2 takes SD and the D70 CF.....but I know you can buy converters.
