Fly to Florida and hire a car, then drive to NASA center,
I've been there same as Kenedy Space Center, will go back one day near.
Also heading to Disneyworld in Orlando or have a drive to Miami.
I also was at Penascola Air Naval base, Fl. for flight training at the year 69-70.

Scott, what Birdy says, except try to avoid Whore-land-o. It's one of the ugliest places on earth (along with Las Vegas, Modesto, and Bakersfield) and contains not one thing of cultural value.

Miami can be a hoot, but if you go to Florida, Key West in the south, St Augustine in the north, and Cedar Keys (about three hours due west of St Augustine, and on the Gulf, rather than the Atlantic, coast) are definitely worth a visit.

Yes, you can! Go to Nasa center in Florida and jump on a tour to KSC, Launch Pad tour, and you can see all close, at NASA Center it also has some static display of the previously model of the shuttle which you can climb inside and see its interior.

Having said that. Check out the man hatch? Is it me or does the quality of the build of this craft look fairly dodgey. I know I wouldn't want to fly in it.

I couldn't agree more. If I could visit one place stateside it is NYC. I haven't been everywhere yet but this place is truly a spectacle to experience. I hated Orlando, and DisneyWorld, though fun is a tad overrated, and you are forced to witness the ugliness of Humanity (kids screaming, parents upset and abusing their kids, mass consumerism etc). However given the chance to go back I would because it is quite fun.
I lived a couple of hours from Vegas in Utah. I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about other than those fussing about the collosal waste of energy and hydro. Smoky buildings, bells and sirens everywhere, outrageous prices. I can't stand Vegas. Of course you've probably noticed by my pics that Vegasness just isn't my thing.

Love the lighting in that last photo. Read up that it took them 6 over hours just to move it into place, travelling at about 2.56 km/h per hour. Now that's patience

I agree with the Whorelando statement too. There's nothign great there to see. The Kennedy Space Center is amazing though. I would love to go back one day with my D70. Miami sucked (but I did propose to my wife there). But Key West was the highlight. Man did I love Key West!! I recommend anyone and everyone to go there if you ever go to Florida.

yes, I love NYC. I've lost count of haow many times I've been there, but each time was on business, with little time to play, so I've to see such things as the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building.

The last time I was scheduled to go there, I'd pre-arranged a meeting with an old friend and co-author of the first book I (we actually) wrote. That was set for around Oct 4 2001. This was going to be the first time I was able to spend time in NYC as a tourist.

We were scheduled to leave Sydney for a couple of days in LA on Sept 12, and then on to Milan and Lago di Como for the F1GP. With US airspace closed, we rerouted through Singapore but had to cancel the NY and SF parts of the trip.

My friend works just a few blocks from Ground Zero, and thankfully I was able to ascertain very quickly that he was fine. ATM, we're looking at a visit to the west coast + EU in the September/October timeframe; whether we'll be able to fit in NYC is yet to be seen, but our window of opportunity for the trip is very short.

When it comes to the vulgarity that's Vegas, I have to say that I'm actually quite proud of my boys. In 1998 I took them there - we were on a road trip taking Sycamore 2 back to LAX to return to SYD - and we spent one night there ... just because we could.

Although the bright lights certainly sparkled, I was pleased to hear them both remark about unpleasant the place was, and they wondered why people would bother to go there.

But they both did enjoy Key West, and we were discussing that just last week, as it happens. That's where I get my cigars from, btw.

OK, so if we're talking Florida:

There's nothing wrong with Orlando... Lot's of fun parks... Disneyworld is heaps better than Disneyland LA... Epcot is a little dated, but still worthwhile and Universal Studios is worth a visit too... Just disengage your adulthood at the gates...

I can't believe that no-one has mentioned the Everglades (one of the world's natural treasures - and it won't be around for long thanks to Florida's fuckups..)

Miami Beach is a lot better than Miami itself and is an Art-Deco & photographer's heaven...

But I would have to agree on The Florida Keys...
An absolutlely amazing experience...
If you are going, I can recommend Key West at Halloween time - they have a great street parade and all the buildings are dressed up to extremes...

OH... BTW - I like Las Vegas as well... It's ok as long as you treat it for what it is - A giant theme park (with lots of different themes)...
And besides - it gives you a damn good excuse to drive through Death Valley (Another photographer's paradise)

I loved Vegas - the low humidity heat, the glitzy city in the desert surrounded by distant mountains... my weekend there was one of my most memorable. Probably more to do with the favourable outcomes from gambling, but even the gaudy tacky "resort" buildings were interesting to walk though and look at.

As for the D2X... man, I count myself lucky to be able to lay my hands on them! They're shifting in quite significant volumes here I can tell ya. At least half a dozen have passed thru HKSupplies' offices and onto new owners. It's a perfect single do-all camera - high res as well as high speed. Beautiful. If I could marry one, I would.
