Touching GrandPa's Hand ( Take II )

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

I didn't comment on the first one... but this looks significantly better...

The skin looks much better in this version (no suggestion of extended sandpaper usage)

A little dark on the LHS still, but only if I'm looking for something to criticise...

A nice photo... Worthy of framing...
Cheers, John

I liked the other one as it the details of the hands showed a story. I agree, this one is too dark for me. Sorry Mic :)

Mic, this shot is a keeper. I'm sure Grandpa would love a print of this. I can help you out there and print one on our plotter at work for you. If you've shot hi-res jpeg or raw I can get a BIG print.
Contact me and will be done.
ps I'm only using Piro's or my version though!

Thanks Wayne, Very funny Ha Ha :D

Yes Marcus, that would be good. What did you and Wayne do exactly ?

Both look good on my Monitor.

A 10''x12'' would be good enough for me, if thats possible.

Good Farthers day Prezzie coming up.

Thanks,

Mic.

In pshop, put the image wiht the blown highlight on one layer (top) and the darker one on another layer (bottom).

Use the polygon lasso or freestyle since you have a wacom to create a selection around the blown highlights. Once that is selected, make sure you're on the top layer, do a Ctrl+Alt+D to feather the selection and do maybe 2 pixels for that small size (feather it maybe 7 or 10 px for larger image) and do a delete. You'll need to do a bit of trial and error with the feathering to get this right.

Adjust the levels of either layer to get the tones to match.

Voila! Instant fix.

I did comment on the first one. And Mic, the levels on the versions posted by Marcus and Piro do make it Perfecto!! One of those priceless keepers. I think you'll be showing this one off for many years to come.

Great work!
Looks great on my Mac. (A real computer used by creative professionals throughout the world, I might add.)

On my work computer there are 5 images and the only image that looks different is the inverted one. The rest look identical. This is really weird.
