I'm not sure if this helps but I remember something about a Sigma 50-500 about a week ago in the image critique section. I think the thread was something to do with a dog, but the image was of a beaut little bird. It may be the same lens...

Often referred to as the Bigma. Do as search for that and you should turn up a few results.

Pretty sure Stubbsy did a review on this one ages ago. Have a search for Bigma or Sigma with posts by Stubbsy :)
