Adelaide Zoo - Part II

Hey Fozzie, wow a siberian tiger is it not? and great pics i can see i am going to have to come for a look at the zoo when i get some time, will be in Adelaide next week again for doctors, getting sick of them got 4 hours drive in Victoria for docs on the wednesday then Adelaide for doctors to Adelaide on the friday. Anyhow loverly pics mate.

First three, Nikon 70-200VR + TC17EII (My equipment)

Next three, Sigma 70-300 (xorl lens)

We changed equipment about half way, so xorl could get the feel of the 70-200VR + TC17EII.

Do you know why the first and third images look a little soft? I thought it might have been some camera movement, but the VR should have removed that.

Ah, the perspex would be the cause. I don't know which is worst, shooting through perspex or wire mesh.

I am hopeful of going back while on holidays in June. Then I will select a day when it is overcast (even light and no reflection) and fine, to get better captures. I was not at all happy with the results on 25 April, 2005 .
I would love to take shots of lions and tigers in their natural habitat .

Back in December I took some shots. The sun was out and hot, so the animals were lethargic as well as the photographer. The cages and mesh drove me mad. The 70-300G insisted on focusing on the fences.



p.s. I bought the 50mm f1.4, as well as a SB-800. Haven't really tried them out yet, but they look very nice.

You will enjoy the SB-800. Can not comment on the 50mm f/1.4 as I do not have one. BTW: I too found that the Sigma 70-300 hunted a fair bit as well.

I have just had a look at the Nikon 70-300G on the Maxwell site, and it didn't look to be the same lens. I have been wrong before, so we have to wait until xorl comes along.
