Nikkor 28-210 f4-5.6

Anyone know anything about this lens, how it performs etc? I have been offered one for $400. I am a little concerned about buying it becasuse the zoom is push/pull. I have heard that this can create a vacuum which draws dust on to the sensor.

Should be the 80-200 AF one ring push & pull not the 80-210

Hmm, I was sure that it is 80-210 f4-5.6 It does have a push/pull zoom though. Is this a bad thing with digital camera? The action is still pretty tight though. No sign of sloppiness. Anyone know how these lenses are optically?

It is AF ?? because there are MF lenses in this range. The 80-200 AFD is f4.5-5.6 and the 70-210 is f4-5.6 so if you are sure about the speed, it's probably the 70-210. Have a look at:

and see if you can spot it.

Nikkor AF-D 80-200 f4-5.6 is an old lens but its optical is quite good, it was the first zoom lens in that range and released in 1995, it was announced and released with no great fanfare. This low-priced lens is hard to find in camera stores because those wanting Nikon quality at a low price and are not fixed on speed have snapped up this fine lens.

I am sure that this lens is the one touch 80 -200 and if so it is a fine lens used at one time by a lot of pro photogs.

Thanks for the quick replies. I gave seen this particular lens on a D100 and the auto focussing works well (very fast, but a tad noisy), and the camera's auto exposure was able to adjust the F-stop. So it should work quite well on the D70.

The push-pull action may cause a vacuum and suck dust into the lens, but the zoom action of the kit-lens does the same... Nothing out of the ordinary therefore...

Oneputt, there has been 5 versions of the 80-200 4.5, one of the 80-200 4, one of the 80-200 4.5-5.6 and five of the 80-200 2.8. There are also three versions of the 70-210 4-5.6 and two of the 70-210 4. Confusing isn't it. Which one do you think MEICW is talking about? Meicw, why dont you put in all the writing on it or better still the serial number and then we can comment on that lens. Not trying to be difficult, but there is a big range here. Make that a huge range

Meicw, if it is the 80-200 4-5.6, it is rated a 3 out of 5 on Bjorn Rorslett site. That is pretty good for a consumer lens compared to pro lenses. $400 is an ok price.
