Birddog would be my first bet.
My second comment would be to tell you about how un-useful Eclipse fluid really is, especially in relation to what it actually is. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

What do you recommend instead Leigh?

i thought the general concensus is that sensorswabs are useless but Eclipse fluid is OK.
I'm probably wrong (I usually am) but wasn't it found out that Eclipse was just a basic methylated spirit or something?

Jack Daniel or XO Martell will do the same job if you try them harder. Birddog114

Can I buy the pure methanol from a chemist and is it expensive? Also...is there a standard for the purity of the product ? Perhaps we could buy a 44 gallon drum of it and dispense it down for sale to forum members? Regards

I can just see us all turning up to Birdie's with our paper bags and bottles! Maybe we could get some ciggies at the same time? The neighbours already think there's something dodgy going on there on Saturdays! *** When getting there is half the fun! ***

55 Gal? Good lord, do you guys wash out the inside of your camera with a spray-bottle or something? I'm a little annoyed I paid for Eclipse fluid now that I know what it is, but the 15-20 mL or whatever it is will last me years.
If anyone needs some AR grade methanol to clean their sensor with, I can bring some to the minimeet. Or alternatively, give me your empty Eclipse bottle and I'll return it full.
MCWB, Thanks, you'll have a small 5 gal. drum on this coming Saturday. Birddog114

Do you know what's the cost of it (2.5L)? Birddog114

Then buy one 2.5L and give away at the mini meet as bonuses for member who comes to the meet. Birddog114

And perhaps what Nulabs is doing for the time being, buy a cheap container from Photographic Solution and fill up with local stock.

Matt, Not too sure what grade would be sold at chemists and if it has any other additives. I wouldn't risk it. Pity you are not in Melbourne I would have supplied you free of charge. Alex
Alex,
Can we send a truck down with an empty 55 Gal. drum? Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
Ok, but only if it takes me to Sydney for the next minimeet. Seriously though, if anyone in Melbourne needs the stuff please let me know before the next Melbourne meet. Cheers Alex
Bring few litres over the mini meet and swap for Pads Birddog114

hmhhh ...
what is the real chance of getting my hands on, let's say 500 cc or 1 Ltr of very pure metho ? BTW I cleaned the surface of lenses and filters with eclypse and the spots just disappeared. (55 gallon drum is delivered at Birddogs, Birddog fills 500 cc or 1 Ltr bottles, MHD picks one up for me when he travels to Sydney and Birddog + MHD are my uncles ...) Cheers CD
With the utmost respect...
All this light-hearted banter isn't helping Steve very much. Does anyone know where he, and I for that matter, should take our 55 gallon drums here in Brisbane??? Simon

LOZ,
Are you still there? can I have 1 litre of methanol? Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
All good fun guys but as Manta says - not helping much with the situation at hand.
I have a friend who has an ample stash of 94%ethanol (double distilled I believe) will that do the trick or am I after methanol ie the not consumable version. The local photo shop has Kodak branded lens cleaning pads - are they suitable for the job The same shop also has kodak branded lens cleaning fluid in 15ml bottles which is a mixture of various things - is that OK Help Please Steve

- The methanol - Kodak pad won't work same as kodak cleaning fluid, if not trust then worth a try and will see. One pack of Pec*Pad (100 shetts) last you many years same as Eclipse fluid, provided you don't leave the eclipse fluid bottle open after used or don't let someone consume it. Birddog114

I hear you hold them over a cliff for the best effect.

Re: Aussie source for sensor cleaning gear
Being a chef, I'd be trying any specialised cooking shop. I know of a place called London America in Elizabeth St, Melb (QVM end) and they should stock them.
SteveGriffin
No! Do not use the Kodak stuff to clean your sensor! It has to be the pec-pads because they are 99.99% lint free. The Kodak fluid is not going to be useful. Must be methanol. Regards
