Files 'n Stuff

Postby gstark on Wed May 04, 2005 6:14 pm

I've added a new section to our front page today, with links to our new Files section.

This is where we'll be keeping files that may be of interest to our members. Stuff like colour calibration charts, or templates for LCD covers, and the like.

Contributions and suggestions are more than welcome.

How much are you thinking about hosting there...
A few freeware apps could be stored there to...

Indeed they could.

Neither storage, nor bandwith, are issues. As long as we can legally distribute it, we can hold it on site.

For the manuals, (good suggestion, Glen) it would probably not be legal for us to hold and distribute them, but certainly a link to Nikon Asia would not be out of place.

Perhaps there could be some links to decent reviews of the D70....maybe even some "in depth" reviews from some of the more experienced users here.

Thinking back to when I was searching for the right dSLR (which took me 3 months of reading on the net every day), the "big named" reviewers often have a slight bias and some things they rabbit on about are not always completely accurate. Of course, most people here will have a bias towards the D70 (as they own one), but who else completely knows the D70 better than any of us who use it day in & day out ?!?

I guess the only downside is, will the D70 be gone and the D70s take over....or the D200 or the D2X or the D3X ???

Just a suggestion......

Gary, this is a good idea. I'd like to make my contribution.

I've got this video that I pulled off some other site that I no longer recall where... (probably linked off Nikonians from a long while back). It's about 17Mb and basically demonstrates the eclipse/pec pad method of sensor cleaning. The vid demonstrates quite clearly, using a matchbox to simulate the sensor, how to go about attaching the pec pad to the rubber spatular and in turn how to wipe properly to ensure no smudges.

I think my site can handle the traffic - but you may also like to mirror it on this site. Maybe even get Leigh's expertise in video editing/encoding to shrink down the size of the video down somehow:

That shouldn't be too hard to do. :)

Chi,

I'd be a bit concerned about placing that file on there because of issues of copyright. You've DL it from "somewhere", so I suspect that you're not the copyright holder.

Who is ? :)

So maybe we should film a version ourselves.
