For under $200 it seems like a good buy. You probably aware, it is a general walk around consumer lens, works better on sunny days, etc .

I would want more details on the condition...

ie: Fungus?
Scratches?
excessive dust in lens?
Mechanisms?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3343&item=7512261948&rd=1
Just in the market for another lens other than my kit lens which wont cost me an arm or a leg...

Are you asking about condition or price or style of lens? This lens is a pro lens, easily worth $600 up to maybe $800. Much, much better than the Tamron. Did I say much better?

Now you are talking!!!

But Expect the price to go MUCH higher...

I have played with exactly the same type (push pull) and it produces nice results

My estimate is that it will go for 700-1200 (mind you at 700 it will be a bargain)
IMHO of course

Actually this:

n addition, there are two very small cleaning scratches on the front element, these are very very small and only visible under very close inspection and good light, The scratches will NOT affect picture quality nor will it ever show up on any images, again I mention it as a matter of thoroughness of inspection rather than it being a problem.

Will drop the price somewhat

My first ever lens was a Tamron 28-200 - I bought it for its great zoom range - this was some years ago... it is now in the bottom draw full of fungus!

Cheers

Yeah, this is roughly what iam looking for...
The 10 day return policy seems to be a good idea, if that spot is more evident than described...
But yeah I am asuming it will go for over $1000. Would'nt hurt it i put a bid in now for $600...

I have one of this (80-200) in a leather case mint condition for AU$500.00 and it's in my collection.

I don't think it'll go over $1K unless there're some "funny" guys around.
This version is one ring, push and pull, no collar.

The brand new Nikkor AF-D 80-200/ 2.8 with collar for tripod, 2 rings, is around AU$1300.00

All being well, (ie nothing wrong with it) you will like this lens... It is widely recognised as a nice glass

Take a look at Bjørn Rørslett's review

Good grief - Don't start MHD on his lens list otherwise we'll be here all night reading his post especially when he adds his "wish" list to the "already acquired" list

hahahaha!
There are worse out there!

The 80-200 forms the guts of the much coveted 70-200VR. basically the same optics

My list is slowly getting there...
I have a very fast prime, the 50/1.4

I have a medium telephoto + macro 105/2.8

I have a good, of cheap, wide - tele zoom, 17-80DX

I have a zoom that will be replaced next, the 70-300G

NEXT:
Something Long, I either save for a long time to get the the 70-200
Or I am thinking about a 2nd hand prime, maybe something like a 300/4

And I am in deep love with Birddogs 28-70/2.8 zoom... This is a fiiiiine lens...

If you go to my Pbase site then most of those pics were taken with the same lens. It is an excellent lens. I think it will go for about $630. I would bid to about $690 after which it is no longer a bargain.

Glen
I bid $655 for it and was the highest bidder for awhile. I would have been glad to have won the auction. It was a good price for someone who wanted the lens badly.
