Waterfalls in the Otways

G'day all,
Haven't posted for a while, got a few days off from work after spitting the dummy and spent the last couple of days cruising around the otways... Hoping to get up to the Bogong plains in the next day or two... (Is Craig's hut easy to get to in a normal 2WD family car?)

Anyway, found some really nice spots, some of the locations of these waterfalls are absolutely beautiful, very relaxing, very calming... And no leaches!

Just posted the first few, stuffed up a few of 'em for angles etc but ah well, it's all a learning experience huh... Was a windy morning too, so it was really hard to get a sharp long exposure with the foliage moving around quite a bit, but enjoyed the scenery and the walks...

I think Darb may have been at the same falls, the cam's on manual... Some with the ND8 for longer exposures... I think the JPEG's still have EXIF. (edit) All with the kit lens, usually F11-16 sometimes more if there's something close but still want sharpness in the background...

I really like the third one. Nice that you finally got a couple of days off.

For Craig's Hut, I believe the access road is fairly rough so a 4WD is recommended. Then you have a bit of a walk at the end uphill. You should start off early. But it's worth it. It's beautiful country up there and so peaceful!

I remember going ot the same falls about 10 years or so ago, with the old trusty F90.

You've inspired me to put this onto my "must do" list for this year !

To jump O/T for a sec...has anyone been to the Brisbane Ranges (near the You Yangs) ?? I pondered a while ago if this would be a good place to go for a day, but I'm not sure what's there.

If anyone has been there before, I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts.....

Bloody Beautiful Andrew, i was thinking today on my way home from Warnambool that we are going to have to take a road trip up the GO raod and do some pics at some stage. I too want to try some of this waterfalls and scenic pics.

I was going to say it look a little under saturated, maybe it's my monitor, I'm at an uncalibrated Mac lab so that could be it.

Mudder, I've always believed that made a good landscape shot was foreground interest. These are nice - with foreground elements in sharp focus. Beautiful waterfalls.

ps re the greens ... theyre a bit of a handful to deal with arent they ... hard to saturate without looking like slime from ghostbusters.

Darb, even just the walks to these places are worth the trip, checked out Erskine falls but haven't posted any. Saw your waterfall shots, beatiful mate. I really like soft waterfall shots and yours look terrific.

Onyx, you're right about foreground interest, I think it's just as important as the subject to lead the viewer into the image. With these I tried to basically select an interesting foreground and then tried to frame the waterfall subject into the image.
