Couple of shots of my "mates"

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

G'day all,
Called in to see my mates, couldn't resist posting these couple, no matter what the species, all babies are cute :-)

#1 is from today, #2 & #3 are from another day.

That's amazing - black fur with very fine detail preserved. Chalk that one up to "a photo you can't achieve on a Canon".

Excellant! If ever I get over to the "eastern" states you will have to give me lessons in control of DOF.

Love 'em all,.............. but the last one..........reminds me of the Ex, same expression in the eyes I think, :oops: :wink:

Andrew, I love these pics and your mates!!! I have never seen these animals before, only on tv and so on, and well the colours on #3 is unreal. Very nice animal and you have some great shots of these as i have seen before and well they are just fantastic.

which lens did you shoot with?
D70, 18-70 DX, Sigma 70-300 APOII, Nikkor 50mm 1.4D, SB800, Bogen 3046 w/Manfrotto 322RC2 ballhead, Lowepro Nova 2 AW

#3 is very sharp, great detail. love it.

too bad you couldnt get a clean, up close of the baby, that would have been a good one

All with the 80-400VR, Terrific lens usually at around f8 unless I need to open up to get a faster shutter, I think with these I was upping the ISO to about 400 or so to get a faster shutter speed...

The 80-400VR may not be as sharp or contrasty as the 70-200 (and hunts a bit in low light) but I find myself needing even more reach than 400mm quite often...

Thought I buggered the colour balance on #2 as that one (and #3) were both through thick double glazed glass... I always find it tricky getting the colour right when shooting through thick glass...

HAHAHA Rob, if only i was that colourful. Lisa said the same thingm only i am fatter than him, there is a reason i dont go swimming or to the beach i dont want to be mistaken for a beached whale. Lisa calls me a Bull i think is like a Bull seal.

I have shots of the same creature but all I had at the time was a Tamron lens & they certainly don't look like yours.

The 1st and 3rd shots look great to me. :D The 2nd looks like it has a green color cast, like you were shooting through tinted glass.
