Postcard Attempt
This is the result of a photo from our recent trip to Binna Burra, a couple of Photoshop tricks and too much time on my hands this afternoon.

Simon, I think it looks cool and yes would make a good post card, i like these sort of things as my paintshop pro has a heap of different borders like this, but is ok for photoshop. Or did you use an action of some sort? still affective.

Not a border - this was all done with the history brush.
The whole original background (after levels adjustment and sharpening) was selected then deleted with a black background remaining. The history brush, with a thick heavy brush stroke, was then used, linked to the history state prior to the deletion. I just did a few sweeping strokes back and forth, keeping in mind where I wanted to leave space for the final text. In this way, the background scene was literally 'painted' on the black background. It works for me Simon but, if I may make another suggestion.
In the black areas I would have brush them with about 10 to 15% opacity to get a slight image bleed through so that the black areas were not so intense - only a suggestion  Chris

Like the design of the postcard, but not too sure about going to place where the trees are purple and green
Chris - excellent suggestion; thank you. I saved this as a jpeg, not a psd so I don't have the luxury of going back and tinkering with the layers but I'll start again from scratch and see how it goes.

You'd probably have been a little disappointed though Nicole - despite a reasonable amount of recent rain, the falls were pretty dry.  Simon

Nice work with the postcard The caption of 'picture yourself there' does not really work for me, but having said that, I can't really think of anything better off the top of my head! You can get 1000 postcards printed for $99 at the moment (full colour on one side, B&W on the other). You can even upload a template into PS.... Cheers Gecko

The tag was playing with the idea of painting yourself into the picture , as I'd used brush strokes to make the image. Maybe I should have just said that: "Paint yourself into the picture" or even better "Paint yourself into our corner" Simon

I thought it might be a subtle hint to photographers... ie, picture yourself taking pictures here, that sort of thing hadn't thought of the painting aspect... Keep up the good work and no doubt starting to search for the 'defining moment'... Cheers Gerard
