Long Reef Sunrise

We went this morning to Long Reef to shoot sunrise. Didn't really catch it because of the clouds but they created some dark and dramatic mood

Nice, but reckon this shot might be better cropped into a low res pano.
Maybe try around 6:2 ratio instead of 3:2.

Nice shot - a very dramatic mood. I agree with Kipper - cropping most of the forground sand might improve it - it would give even more emphasis to the sky.

Heres my idea for pano crop. Hope you don't mind.
Slight contrast, brightness and saturation adjustments.

Bugger sunrise, you've captured a ripper there!

I personally prefer the original, has a better feeling of space..but I also don't mind the pano. Now how do I get a cup of tea to balance on this fence I'm sitting on?!!

Mikhail
You've just demonstrated exceedingly well how you can get great shots even when they're NOT what you planned for.

Darryl
You've just demonstrated the utility of postprocessing.

While I like both variations, I must say the rework by Darryl is just ahead by a nose.

Hlop, if you want any info on what I did just send me a PM and I'll walk you through it. This would be a great peice of work to print and hang on the wall.

Fantastic shot Hlop, and I really like what Kipper has done to it as well :) I suddenly wish it was my turn to select the POTW!

The pano crop that Kipper has done makes the photo more dramatic but I am not sure that I like the halation on the horizon :(

Not much I could do with that Chris seeing as I wasn't working with the original. Also taking a JPEG and resaving to a JPEG = bad.

Hlop, sorry dude. Monday was my birthday so I was kind of busy, and lastnight I was busy too. I'll give you a hand tonight.

Aw, sorry for my impatience. I just noticed that PM announcements aren't working properly with new hosting and thought that maybe you didn't notice PM

P.S. Happy Birthday :)

Chris,

I'll take in account Kipper's method but will go my way anyway :)

fantastic shot mate, love the moody feel. I shot the 12 apostles recently (who hasnt) and had cloud cover that infact "made" the shot ... something different, dark and moody colours, love em!
