A report on Positive customer service (nice for a change)

Postby Spooky on Fri May 13, 2005 11:00 am

I tried out Raw Shooter Essentials the other day. Here is the weblink

http://www.pixmantec.com/products/rawsh ... tials.html

Note that this is currently a free download.

I like the interface and features set and especially the speed compared to NikonCapture. The actual quality of the processing I am yet to fully test.

Anyway I had an issue with the slideshow feature in that it wouldn't work and actually crashed the program.

I outlined the problem in an email to their support area. A guy got back to me fairly promptly and within a day between the two of us we worked it out. He thanked me for my assistance and says he will make modification in the next release to overcome the issue. (It related to the use of dual monitors).

With that sorted I started a discussion with him in relation to support of images from the D70S. He replied saying they were aware of the WB issues but hoped to make their product compatibile with the D70S fairly soon and were trying to get hold of some D70S images so they could start looking at it. He even asked me to send some but I could not help out as I don't have a D70S.

At least there is some hope that Raw processing programs other than NC will support the new encrypted WB Nefs from the D70.

Overall a positive experience from a supplier.

Spooky, do you have his email address? A few of us have D70s RAW files we can send him thanks to Birdy.

Ok guys here is the email address I originally sent to for help:

support@pixmantec.com

The guy who responded to me was Michael Jonsson and his email address appears to be:

mijch@mail.tele.dk

Just tell him you heard he was after some D70S images for testing and thought you would help out.

Cheers.

Actually guys I just mailed Michael to say some guys were sending him some D70S photos and he replied:

Sounds Great!

Just use http://www.yousendit.com and put mij@pixmantec.com as the recipient.

Regards,

Michael

Sppoky, the cynic in me perceives you (and all of us using RSE) to have been beta testing on a non-beta software product, and you were glad to be doing so...

Anyway, yeah I agree their responsiveness to your reported bug in this case is astounding.

I also note on their web site that they've done a deal with Corel to bundle it with their software for free. I also not there's the possibility on the web site for another version of Raw Shooter which you'd presumably pay for. They even have the online store set up.

But I'm extra cynical. :?

Expecting a commercial version is coming up I think is just being realistic not cynical. :)

Given I didn't pay anything for the software I was happy to give it a go and give them feedback.

I agree. Plus I think a free light version and a paid for full version is a fair deal.

Darb

MHD was at the Sydney meet last Saturday and played with a D70s belonging to birddog there using his own CF card. That's where the pics came from.
