Hi All,
As discussed with stubbsy, I may organise a meet and a photo workshop over those areas in the next couple months, and date has not been set yet.
Boat Harbour, Anna Bay, Stockton beach, Nelson Bay, Newcastle are the nice places with sand dunes, nice beaches with sunrise and sunset. 4WD fun driving over the Stockton beach, sand dunes, camel rides etc...
Possibility of camping, fishing, 4WD on Stockton beach
I'll open my holiday home at Boat harbour and use it as a base to explore the surrounded areas, Stubbsy and Flyer's bases are about 50 min. drive to/ from.
Maximum of 10 members, please express your thoughts and interest.

Unsurprisingly I'm interested. Don't have a 4WD (don't think my Mazda 6 likes sand that much )

Darb's mates with the Hilux might be able to give you some tips. On how not to do it.

Naturally, you can count us in
Our Forrester may only be a baby 4WD, but it still counts
Will consider camping, but we have back up accommodation in Newcastle if it comes to that.

Registering interest for the concept in principle, depending if I can get the other half involved or not. After May is better for me, May is a bit mental for me.

Perhaps, stubbsy and myself will recon those areas more in details and find some good spots, I knew Boat Harbour, Anna Bay and its vicinity very well but like to pick the top spots.

Not yet, although have driven past them. The whole area is really nice.
Have been looking for an excuse to go on the beach since I got the Forrester. Looks like we finally have one
Look forward to getting out there (hopefully) for a sunrise with the shipwreck in the foreground. We'll see

Give us a yell if you're going to, don't need too much of an excuse to go to Newcastle. I think we're headed up that way in the next couple of weeks anyway

My holiday home is just five min. walk to Boat Harbour beach, a small beach with natural boat ramp, nice view.
Now I need a boat about 17 or 22 feet.

Is that the weekend of the 11/12th of June?
If so, unfortunately, I can't make it (exams).

I'm guessing this isn't happening due to lack of interest for the long weekend. Definitely we should organise it some time though.

This event may delay until July, though the long w/e does not attract many member's interest.
How's about an event at the week end with Twilight cruise dinner and accomodation + workshops during the day.

I'd be interested. If we're lucky we might even see some dolphins.

Lot's of japanese tourists window shopping for their dinner then
Photo's of a whale up close would be awesome. Never seen one
(please note - no problem with japanese people, just those people on the planet who want to hunt another species to extinction)

What's the current status of this excursion?
I've decided that if it's on this weekend (Saturday?) I'd like to come, and bring Ann too.
EDIT: Just spoken to Thanh, and I'm coming along on Saturday - hopefully some others can make it too.

By the look of this thread it looks like this is a goer? I'm still deciding whether or not I can go, I have to be in the city at 6, which would probably mean leaving around 4-ish... might consider doing Sunday instead, what do people have planned?

Just had a chat to some 4WD people at work. It's about 20 minutes from the 4WD entrance at Anna Bay to the wreck of the Sygna. You can also go on at Lavis Lane (the roundabout where the servo is south of the Newcastle airport roundabout) which is shorter, but not as good a track.
Of visual interest apart from the dunes is the Sygna itself (probably as far south as we need go) and "steel city" which is a whole stack of rusty tin fisherman's shacks behind the dunes. The Sygna is S of Lavis Lane and the shacks are N of Lavis lane.
I believe birddog has a GPS which would be a useful thing to have. At the Anna bay entrance is also a big sign with a mobile phone no for people who'll come and drag you out if you get bogged

Peter,
I knew both these spots, unfortunately, we had no good opportunity to do it last w/e but will do one day near, I normarlly start at Anna Bay near my DRP base, the venture and exploration may take up to 1/2 day with the 4WD. We have to summon members who have the 4WD to join otherwise, my truck only takes 4 and it's the maximum.
