OT ? need your help ...

Postby christiand on Sat May 14, 2005 12:01 am

Hi all,

I have seen a similar question pop up in this forum.
I did a couple of searches but cannot find anything related.
Could someone please help me out with this question.
I'm looking for a compact point and shoot camera for my wife.
Something easy to use, but giving acceptable results.
What would you recommend ?

Cheers

How easy?

I was looking at the 4600/5600/7600 until I found out they completely lacked ISO control...

Hi Christiand, I have a Canon S50 and it is brilliant. It was my first digital camera (after a fair bit of research) and it's a winner. I was after a 20D but decided on the D70 when I purchased my DSLR (again after alot of research) as the value for money weighed in favour of the D70.

There is probably a S70, S80 and so on now. My trusty S50 delivers the goods. It is compact yet robust and full of features. It offers manual control and the software is excellent. Hope this helps.

CD,
Nikon Coolpix 8800 is brilliant and it's with VR too! so she can join the VR club at 4:00am like you did. BTW, Canon P&S are the good choices.

Christian, there was discussion about P&S options in this thread too. The Canons are very worthy of consideration in this area

cheers

Christian, just got my 69 yr old mum the Collpix 8800 with VR. She loves it and finds it relatively simple. Now downloading the software from Nikon Asia, that was a little harder...

Christian, I also had a canon S40 as my 1st digital camera and could not have been happier with it. Lot of manual control, relatively compact and great results. Recommended the S50 to my mother-in-law, and she now loves me even more... :D
