To D70 or D70S ?

Postby Spooky on Fri May 20, 2005 6:30 pm

I currently have a D70. I am looking for another camera to assist me in covering weddings and other events. This will give me the flexibility to have two lenses mounted and ready to go. The second camera also provides a backup if one camera fails.

I am keen to get a camera with the same menus and features if possible so I can seamlessly move between the two. Is the D70S sufficiently similar to my current D70 menu wise so this wouldn't be an issue?

Price isn't really an issue as I think Birdy sells them for about the same.

I'm sure there are other issues as well I have not thought of.

My question is therefore should I get a D70S or get another D70.
Your thoughts appreciated on this matter.

Thanks

Spooky,
No more D70 stock, if found one, price should be very expensive.
If you're lucky and can find an used D70.
Otherwise only the D70s is the way to go.

Nah there is a better way birddog. Just sell the D70 and get 2 D2Xs :)

Saw some lucky bastard on Naturescapes had a D2X and a 300MM F2.8 VR.

Spooky

The D70s menus are near identical to the D70 ones

Hopefully my 300 VR is on its way heading South, just in time for my day.

Birdy - Paxtons are still selling the D70  "Save yourself $400 - A bargain at $1999"... no mention of the D70s there yet!!!

A point in their favour though - I did catch a Paxton's salesman trying to convince someone to buy a D70 rather than a 20D - "much better value for money"

Even these lens with VR come out, still not work with handholding techniques.
Have you ever hold these lenses in your hand, kipper?

Spooky, I just obtained a d70s for the same purposes that you state. I just got it today, but I haven't yet noticed any difference between the 70 and the 70s for operational purposes. Of course, that assumes you've installed the new v2 firmware for the d70.

Actually I haven't been game to upgrade my D70 yet.

I will wait till I have my D70S then upgrade the D70 just in case I bugger it up and can't use it.

Chicken I know. But I have a job today and don't want to stuff it up cause I couldn't upgrade the firmware on the D70 properly.

upgrading the D70 is EASYYY.
nothing to it really...just follow the instructions on the site.
do it through your CF card, took me less than 5minutes.
