Womens HockeyHi All, Well today we went for a drive to the beach to take some pics which i might post some in another thread but came back home and went to the local sports park to watch some hockey. I have scored a job as a Casual Photog for a Victorian Country Newspaper and covering different interleague sports is what my job will be so well time to try some thing different so here is a few shots.

Re: Womens Hockey
For no sharpening these look great, the colour seems excellent, play much with the WB? Very interested to hear your thought with the tele-conv on the 80-400 and the impact on your shutter speeds, as I find myself needing more length sometimes (don't we all ), I'm using the 80-400 sometimes wish I had more length. Good on ya for getting the casual gig Aka Andrew
Thanks All, I do love this lens and have had it for some time now as this was my main lens for my Bike race shots, anyhow i did want a bit of xtra reach. So i got the Kenko last week and today was a to see how it worked and well i am very happy with it.
Alex i used AF-C for these shots i think it is a must for anything that moves. WB i have set to auto -2. I am happy with the shots and well this combination works well, i think that the Nikon Tc's dont work with this lens but the Kenko works fine even with VR. BBJ,
Auto WB -2 !! Same as I use and probably most other people... Makes me wonder why Nikon doesn't change the WB default to this! Just out of curiousity, what curve did you use as it looks a lot like what I would get using Fotogenics P&S 4.0. If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
Thanks Chris, I just have to take pics and well just a waiting game now as when and where and what i am to take pics of and they are paying per photo to use in 1 of there 3 papers and photos sales referred back to me,so who knows for now only heard from them the other day so waiting game now.

John i dont use curves or have any in camera, i have played a bit with some pn PS but yeh not my cuppa tea and been to slack to load any into camera, i guess i just haven't bothered or seen a need for it.
When i load a curve up in PS they look to bright for me so i wouldn't load 1 into the D70. D3,D2x,D70,18-70 kit lens,Sigma 70-200mm F2.8EX HSM,Nikon AF-I 300m F2.8, TC20E 2X

Great shots John! As a hockey player myself I can appreciate the action you have captured, well done!
If you position yourself just left or right behind the goalmouth where the short corner routines are fired from you can also get great shots from there. Just remember and duck if there's a deflection! Nikon F80D, FM2n

Thanks Paul, Yes well i will remember that as this is the first time taking pics and there was a bit of a crowd there so stayed down 1 end a bit slightly off central not to get in anyones road, but for first time turned out ok, all hand held but will try different spot next time.
