Printer recommendations

Postby Thommo on Tue May 24, 2005 1:04 am

well ive decided that i want to start printing off alot more of my stuff. and being the slacko i am i would also like to do this at home. atm i have no idea about printers apart from basicly the more ink tanks the better. looking at a budget of around $500-$600 but could be stretched. i am not going to buy for a few months.

could you guys point me in the right direction.

Correct me if I'm wrong but printers in this price range, either Epson and Canon, are using dye inks and just more expensive Epson models are using archival quality pigment inks. I'm not sure if any of Canon printers is using pigment inks at all.

Just thinking about change of printer myself - Canon i965 prints very good but I don't want to re-print all my albums in 5-8 years when they start fading

Epson R800, but as Birddy says, check closer to purchase time. The R800 uses the 100 year pigment inks. Personally I would spend the $1k and get the A3+ R1800, rather than A4 (then again I have).

You could always go for dye-sub, but I've always found most of the technology out there a waste of money.

The only really good ones tend to have prices that reflect it.
