Picture of the Week - May 24th, 2005This week's Picture Of The Week goes to embi with his shot of Trex, the kelpie, and his (the dog) obsession with chasing tennis balls.
I love the grain, the sepia tone, and the intent eyes on the dog as he goes after that tennis ball. This shot puts one of my most favourite parts of a dog into a nice, little artistic form: the personality. I think the blown out highlights in the background only help to shift the attention from the the background into the foreground to see what the dog and his master are doing. Fantastic shot Embi, and excellent choice Leigh! I think this shot is great, surreal in a way with the sepia tones...caught so well with the dog in a real action mode. I have a kelpie/border collie who is obsessed with chasing balls too..so this one was a natural winner to me as well! Congratulations!

This is a fantastic shot from embi - congratulations. It reminds
me (very vaguely) of the Diane Arbus style - although much much happier of course - with the interesting juxtaposition, the graininess, the sepia, the whole thing. Really good. And a great action capture too. Excellent choice Leigh. Last edited by Greg B on Tue May 24, 2005 10:13 am, edited 1 time in total.

The thing that has struck me about POTW is that we are seeing so many differing genres. I suppose that shouldn't be surprising, given that we have such a diversity of membership. The POTWPickers are doing an excellent job.
This pic really illustrates "fun" to me, and I like it a lot. Edited to change my dyslexic PTOW to POTW! Last edited by the foto fanatic on Tue May 24, 2005 11:06 am, edited 1 time in total.

Embi,
Congratulations on your selection for PotW. I too think it's an excellent choice, and I think it's a great shot of a dog doing exactly what dogs just love to do. The exact opposite of a cat; can you imagine an action shot of a cat sleeping?
Trevor, Thanx for the feedback. I too think that this is a very successful exercise on the part of the forum, and as you correctly observe, the diversity of the membership is being very well reflected in both the images that are being displayed (in general) as well as what is being selected for PotW. I doubt one could hope for a more broad spectrum of quality images, and the hard part, sometimes, is simply choosing that one image from what's been submitted during the week. But that is a good problem to have. g.

Congrats Embi. Missed this first time around (one of the great things about POTW). The sepia works well and, as already observed, this is a great personailty shot.
Gary - cats do more than sleep - they have to eat and excrete too Which do you want a pic of? Peter

Thank you for the great comments.
Its a great feeling having your own image as POTW so thank you for chosing mine. I can tell you Trex was happy. I don't think there could be a happier dog than when Trex spots a tennis ball in my hand.
Congratulations embi on a wonderful shot! Did you say you threw a cat and the dog chased??
well done... cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
We're already aware of and monitoring the situation, but thanx. It's heartening to see that we're not just being paranoid about this. g.

Yup, it appears so. Of course, I'd love to assume that there's no motivation behind this other than to "join in on the community"... but then again... I am a cynical one. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

The cynicism certainly does !
The paranoia? Who's asking? g.
