Cycling road-race photo-op 29th May - Eastern CreekThere will be a larger than usual cycling road-race at Eastern Creek Dragway at 8am on Sunday 29th May.
3 races lasting an hour each with 60-80 cyclists in each race... Most cycling clubs from Sydney will be represented, so there should be lots of colour and lots of action. A friend of mine hopes to be leading the middle race, and I'm thinking of going along for a bit of photographic practice if the weather is half reasonable... If anyone else is interested, then let me know and we can arrange to meet... I'm pretty sure that entry is free - we just need to find our way in and a good spot to take photos... I know... I know... 8am on a Sunday morning!!! Cheers, John

The V8 Supercars are also visiting Eastern Creek this weekend, I assume the traffic will be chaotic?
I would be surprised if it was free entry given the prices they'll be charging people to view the V8's. Nikon F80D, FM2n

The cycling is at the Dragway not the Raceway, but yes, the traffic might be a problem...

Don't forget to take your flash to get rid of the shadows from helmets etc.
Lucky this day was overcast as I couldn't work out how to turn on high speed sync on my new flash. http://mark.locatrix.com/bmanson/gallery/albums/QLDCrit05/IMG_0338.jpg http://mark.locatrix.com/bmanson/gallery/albums/QLDCrit05/IMG_0460.jpg Canon 1D III
You can't afaik petal turn on high speed sync, as it has to be done via the camera and from what I understand the D70 doesn't have this option. The only way to allow higher speed shutters is to tape out the rear two contacts (gary mentioned this a while back), but that loses i-TTL. The other option is to use a ND filter.

No need for tape here. It was just that the 550EX required me to press two button simultaneously to set high speed sync wereas my 420EX just had a slider button. I couldn't work that out without the manual which I didn't have with me. Canon 1D III
