Looking at upgrading my compact camera opinions please

Postby Catcha on Thu May 26, 2005 7:24 pm

My Sony T1 compct digital camera has given me nothing be grief, with poor indor quality shots and blurry pictures.

I'm looking at a replacement compact camera. And wondering if any other members use one besides there D70.

I've read some reviews on Canon Powershot SD400-500. They seem pretty good. But would like other members comments

Cheers

I have an Olympus P&S (C-310) but i would recommend one of the Canons you mentioned.

Hey Catcha

I bought my wife a nikon coolpix 5700, 5mp and she is wrapped! It takes nice sharp pics, easy to use, heaps of features and relatively cheap.

glenn
I finally got one!

Ben,

In the PHD field, I'd be looking at the 4-7MP Nikons and Canons.

Both make excellent cameras with great optics in these ranges, and it's simply a matter of weighing up the physical size vs MP vs zoom range offered and coming to a decisive moment. :)

The Canon has some great reviews. The nikon well can't comment. I after one that does great indoor shots in low lighting. This where the Sony has failed me many times trying to capture shots at dinners, and nightclubs, social events where you would leave your bulky D70 at home.

I think I might be inclined towards the Canon SD500.

Have a look at the Fuji F10. It is getting great reviews for the low light images. Low noise high iso images.

Just a quick glance at Dpreview on it. It doens't have viewfinder, just like the sony, It's really hard in the dark when trying to P&S. This was a hassle with the sony trying to see what your trying to shoot in low light conditons, And in bright light you always trying to shield the sun so you can see LCD screen

I'll chime in: Panasonic LZ-1 or LZ-2 (4 or 5 MP respectively). 6x optical (from 37mm equiv), the largest selling camera in Japan released this year due to its attractive pricetag and Mega OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser). Takes regular AA batteries and SD cards.
