WeedsStill playing around with the Sigma 150 macro and liking it more and more.
This macro bug has bitten me bad! Some weeds in front of our apartment building taken handheld. First one: ISO 800 f11 1/400sec Second one: ISO 400 f5 1/2000sec Any comments/suggestions welcome.
Nice images, especially #1 - very sharp.
Maybe #2 suffers from having the weed placed so centrally and straight up & down. I can see you are going to have a lot of fun in macro-world, Dom! TFF (Trevor)

Wow, the thistle(?) in the first one is so SHARP
Curiosity question, is there a halo around (particularly) the left hand side of the un-opened thistle in the background on the left hand side? Just me maybe Aka Andrew
You are right, there does appear to be a halo around the the unopened fluffy/thistle thing. I don't know why. I don't think its a result of sharpening.
For a comparison here is the pic as it appears in the post: and how it was with only a crop and no curves adjustment and USM. What do you think could be the cause? It just hit me. Do you think it could have been caused by in camera sharpening being on auto?
Definately in both, dunno if it's in-cam sharpening, never used it, I use raw then high-pass filtering in PS, rarely use USM (although the "smart sharpen in PSCS2 looks rather spiffy, even caters for motion blur and you can determine the angle of movement!).
Wonder if it's just one of those "illusion" type of effects, maybe one of the experienced members could help? That thistle subject still looks amazingly sharp though! Gee that looks good... Aka Andrew
