Nice feeling, sort of...Walked into our local framing/picture shop here in Coffs Hbr and saw my photo (30"x20" size) all framed and on sale. Gives one a nice feeling to see your work next to the "pros" eg Ken Duncan etc etc. Having said all that, I sold the print to them for $35 (print cost was $20), and the retail? $265. Taking all in consideration eg petrol, time, equipment, expertise etc, I most probably have lost on the deal (sold 3 of them) but at least it's a foot in the door.

It's the small steps like this that eventually lead you to big things. Don't undersell yourself....but also give yourself time to learn the ropes. Never look back. Good luck...all the forum members are with you. Regards

Congratulations on your sale Max - a wonderful shot that you must be proud of. When you went to the framing shop originally, did you have in mind a sale, or were you just getting it framed? Did you approach them, or did they ask you about selling it?

Thanks all, Frank I was trying to sell a few prints, tried to negotiate a price that was to my advantage but they wouldn't come at it - I can understand their reasoning as the rents they pay at the big malls are horrendous - they can buy generic surf prints (poster size) for about $10

Good luck to you Max. Hang in there and I'm sure bigger and better things will follow...

This doesn't sound that bad to me, as long as you retain the copywrite to directly sell to people that purchase directly from you. I mean you have to start somewhere. I think that's a good idea btw. Might try a little of that myself.
I liked this pic when I first saw it - it must look awesome framed up at 30x20.
Well done Max. TFF (Trevor)

To be honest Chris, I don't ever expect to make money out of photography, whatever comes comes, but you're right, it sure is a lot of fun. This forum helps a lot, it's far and away the best forum I've ever come across. Max President, A.A.A.A.A (Australian Association Against Acronym Abuse)

sweet photo no doubt but 35 bucks you got a raw deal i would have guessed from an amature to a small business you'd be charging the the region of $150 mounted maybe $100. It's sweet your making some cash but remeber not to undersell if you do then thats the rep your stuck with and raising your prices will be next to impossible
max - truly stunning shot - at that size it must be amazing!
on your first sale i guess you did not make your fortune but, per other posts - this is the first little step in a long journey - good luck
3!! Well done!!! Man I am jelous!
Awesome shot though New page

That's an awesome shot Max, amazing colour, stunning scene. Framed at 20x30 it would look amazing, no wonder it's sold a few, I'm sure more sales will come along.
Must be a buzz seeing your work up there. Well done... Aka Andrew
Thanks Steve and everyone else, much appreciated, I dropped into a few places today at Coolangatta. There was a famous surf shot (print) in the window of one place - proprietor of shop said that 14,000 have been sold from this one print ("horseshoe wave") around the world, but the photographer made only $1 per print! Still, that's good money when someone else does all the marketing and production etc for you. Max President, A.A.A.A.A (Australian Association Against Acronym Abuse)
