Epson P-2000

Epson are listing it on their Aussie site!

Does that mean it'll be released here soon...?

Uncanny!

Just talking to a friend of mine who has recently bought one in UK. I'm meeting him tomorrow night so going to have a good play with that because I am really interested in getting one.

I have it for about 4 months and now Epson Australia posts it! wonder how much does it cost? perhaps less than AU$1k or AU$999.00 and do they have stock? no, waiting list is minimum 3 months.
I finally talked to my Epson Account Manager today and asked him.

It'd be interesting to hear how well it works for NEFs. I'm looking for a new storage device.
Don't really need the display screen, but then, It's usually a case of "want" rather than "need."

What do you want to hear about Epson P-2000 and NEF?
I always shoot NEF with my D70/ D100/ D2h & D2x and using the P-2000.

It's ability to display movies is somewhat unimpressive, though.

Does it display the encrypted WB of the D2X NEFs??? If so, it can't be very good encryption...

Just wondering if it is quick to review NEFs (at least as fast as Nikonview) and whether one can accurately judge sharpness, colour & exposure from it. This would be the only reason I would get one with a display - to accurately review my shots whilst on the go. Otherwise, it be just much simpler (as well as much cheaper) to buy one without an image display, dump them and wait till I get back to the desktop.

Have placed an order on advice from Teds Cameras.
3 Months sounds like the real deal on this device.
Guess it may well be outdated by that time, and a new improved version will be available.

Given the time delay, I am now giving serious consideration to the laptop option. Cost and convenience aside. The laptop will be able to do much the same and more, if not a little more combersome.

Suri, i too was just looking at Teds and the p2000. I am now looking at the Xdrive VP 6210, 1/2 the price of the Epson but yeh it is a tough decision if i was going to spend that much i would consider a laptop i think as well you can check you pics out there and then, this would be handy for me in a way but as i shoot RAW mode i would have to transfer and process from Raw to jpg at the track.

Xdrive i can see the pics on it's screen or get 1 with out and just use the storage side of it.
Decisions!!!

For the price of a brand new laptop with 15" LCD and Pentium M cpu around $1600.00, you guy better buy a laptop.
The only inconvenience of the laptop is: you can't take it with you during the day trip shooting, it's bulky and it needs juice to run.

Yes birdy you are right, i have not been a lover or wanting a laptop as i have never liked them but think they have there place. I know 1 of my compitition photogs who doesnt come here often brings 1 and take his pics and tranasfers to his LT and sets it going after the race meeting on slide show and gets his orders that way.
Anyhow last nite i was looking at the Xdrive VP6210-40gig $430, or the 1 without a preveiw screen VP3320B-40 $320
Any thoughts?

Regarding the P2000, a few people asked about this when I mentioned it was in Borge Imaging. They have one but said they will have stock in mid to late June, probably about the same time Birddy will have it
