Today from North Head - right time, right place!
Whilst not technically anything special, we were very fortunate enough today to be at North Head as this whale chose to surface and breach. These were taken with the 70-300G lens. It was a case of 'quick get the camera out' as we'd only JUST got to the edge when we noticed it...

Sharp images by the way. That lens is often under rated. You must have got yourself together pretty quickly in order to capture those shots. Nicely done! Regards

Thanx Matt, I couldn't believe myself how quickly I got the camera out and ready..the whale breached almost as soon as we first spotted it.. We waited around for about an hour afterwards to see if it would do it again...it was a one show only tour .Geoff

I was looking carefully for whales during the helicopter flight yesterday, but saw none... Maybe I should have concentrated more on my camera settings...  Cheers, John

Nice one Geoff, you are indeed blessed to see such a show of spectacularity! We live right near the beach and don't have to go very far to see whales, but I've never seen them breach like this.

F^&* no. I'm temporarily using my sister's Powershot ISUX 500. Hence the Canon. If I sell my D70, it'll be for the D200.

By the time you come back to Aus and send it away for a surgery, then it's time for the new body, enjoy your loan PS ISUX500, save you lot of hassle of changing lenses, CCD cleaning, CA, distortion, backfocus etc... Birddog114
