Nikon D70 drop test

Has anybody else dropped their Nikon D70?
I was getting out of Nicoles car the other day and stupidly had part of the bag open. D70 along with teleconvertor attached fell out and hit the concrete ground. Part of the impact was on the RSS BD70-L. Today I just noticed the other part was the corner of the camera near the battery door. Might get some fine grain sandpaper and sand out the dinks. Swear the BD70-L saved the camera

Yes, the worse and stupidest for me drop situation was attempting to place it back into its bag. Vertically orientated, my hold on the right hand grip slipped and it fell all of about 6 inches through the bag and onto the floor. Not much of a fall, but freaked me out nonetheless.

The D70 is also alot more waterproof than people give it credit for.

The L bracket helps a lot on impact even with other D100 and D2 series

I dropped mine at Jenolan Caves in the office just before going in... It bounced off a couple of filing cabinets and landed on the floor (about 5 ft drop)... There's no visible sign of damage, but my on board flash hasn't worked since then...
I'll probably wait until Nov / Dec when the warranty is almost up to get it repaired...

last weekend at a shoot, shooting from a monopod... loosened the clamp while kneeling down... got distracted and cam fell ~ 1ft onto carpet...

no damage... (phew)

My daughter knocked my D70 off a top bunk to the floor (carpeted) - what's that, about 1.6 metres? I had the kit lens and its hood attached, and the hood was cracked badly, but luckily I think it must have absorbed the impact because the camera still works fine

I hate straps so never use one but am always worried that I am going to have a moment. So far so goood.

Dropped my D70 with Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 attached. Camera came thru fine. The lense needed replaced, didn't want to work all the time. Only had the lense a month.

Never; my shots are all done with Nikon glass; if the glass isn't cheap, so the shots cannot be cheap.

In defence of Sigma I would just like to say that replacing the 70-200 is a lot cheaper than replacing a 70-200VR, and as has been proven, the Sigma takes damn sharp pics

Not when you drop the replacement lens. Ot its replacement.

The point is that the 70-200VR will survive being dropped, and won't need to be replaced. By way of comparison, how many droppings of the Sigma will it take till you've effectively purchased a Nikkor, yet you're still only getting Sigma quality images?

I Always use the neck strap. For some strange reason one day I didn't have it round me. Took a couple of photos then let the camera hang around my neck. Realised it was hanging a bit low as I was about to release and quickly grabbed again, changed undies, poured stiff drink, swore at own stupidity...

At least I know I won't be the first, and from what I read it may even survive the fall...

I would like to more about "The D70 is also more waterproof than you think" or something like that on previous page... Time for some underwater shots???
