New monitor dissappointing

Just got a new 21" Mitsubishi 215A CRT.

Its listed on the Mitsubishi site as having a flat display picture tube but after using flat display monitors for years this looks anything but flat to me.

Not sure I can get used to the curvy screen.

Are there any good 21" flat screen CRTs out there?

Don't know if I can take this one back now. I sort of wrecked the cardboard box it was in to make it easy to lift out.

retail stores: if the item your purchased is not as described e.g flat screen. you should be able to send it back, just depends where you brought it though, swap meets, s/h

I have a 19" Philips CRT, very happy with it, originally I wanted a Sony Trinitron, which I bought and took home (one of the last). After setup I noticed two horizontal lines very faint, across the monitor. After 4 hours warming up they were still there. So I returned the unit to place of purchase.

I was told that these were "calibration" bars,(?) I said I did not care, they were two distracting, especially when editing pics, and also I was not happy with the colour.

Begrudgingly they exchanged the sony, but only after I had them unpack and fire up the four 19" monitors they had in stock, not on display. I figured you stare at it for a long time and with pics you had to be satisfied with what you have. The Philips was the best alround one of the lot, I have never regretted the decision or drama of retuning the sony.

My advice, take it back, and get one you are satisfied with. See it running instore before taking it home.

The two faint bars that you saw are integral to the Trinitron monitors. You hate them at first, then you get over them when everyone is envying the clarity of your monitor. I had my Viewsonic G810 21inch and my mates Sony 21inch side by side at a lan. I was extremely impressed by the crispness of his monitor, and would get over the two lines quick smart. At work we used to have the Diamond Trinitron monitors, loved them even though they had the lines.

I'm with Darryl on this. Trinitron monitors - the bars are annoying for a while, but you stop noticing them since they are just so crisp (and I almost returned the monitor on my first Macx because the Trintitron had lines on it ) I have had 5 Trinitron's since (work & home) and won't have anything but for CRT.

Stormgirl. If they say it's flat & it's curved - take it back box or no box. There's a huge difference. Since I use Trinitron both at home & work - looking at a non flat monitor is weird since they look like they have a fisheye on the front - not good + I'd have them for false advertising.

Trinitron tube is the best in among CRT monitors, the top Mitsubishi used its tube, and the horizontal bar was there since the first day when Trinitron tube in the market.
Most of graphic or DTP same as CAD use and prefer the Trinitron monitor.
But it's your taste and you dislike it, though you missed out something.
Can't live with the Philips BTW.

I have a Sony Trinitron GDM400PS and I wouldn't be without it. It's such a magnificent monitor. I've upgraded my PC twice since I purchased it quite a number of years ago and I never think about replacing it.

I'm sure one day I'll have to, but until then I'm keeping it...calibration lines or not

Mmmmm . Interesting ! I may have just bought a new monitor, but actually it's a 17" Samsung LCD! Very flat! I'm actually very happy with it too! Yes, I know, you're all saying that a CRT is MUCH better for PPing, but the space on this tiny desk is very limiting, and a CRT would not fit.....my Husband was lovely enough to buy the whole set-up for me (so he could get his PC back!)

Anyway...nice to see that a conversation (mistakenly) about me ended up about red wine.....Mmmmm, maybe there is something in that?

Never mind Stubbsy, I know what effect red wine can have!!

Me too Andy, I looked at all the specs and the Phillips rated very highly. My personal preference is CRT, flat screen. My Phillips 109 (19") is fantastic and I have been very happy.

Pretty sure this monitor does not have the triniton tube. Don't think Mitsuibishi sell any here now in 21" with the good tubes.

The mitsubishi website describes it as a flat display picture tube. I then did a search using static ice to find prices and was directed to the page of the retailer with that monitor. It doesn't say there it is a flat screen but nothing on the page was inconsistant with the mitsubishi page so I assumed I had the correct monitor (which I did) I bought it (wife picked up for me) and got it home to find it is pretty curvy.

Retailer doesn't want to know me becuase they claim they advertised it correctly (which they did). I have spoken to the office of fair trading but according to the woman I spoke to the case is doubtful.
