Two button formatDoes anybody else have issues with the two button format or is it just me?
Since I bought the camera and press both buttons to format, it just flashes the FOR on the LCD but when it returns it han't formatted. The only way I can format is via the menu? Is this a known bug? This also happens even after the latest firmare. Darryl (aka Kipper)

Kipper You have to do it twice.
Hold the two buttons down until For shows. Release the buttons, then hold them back down again pretty much straight away. Works every time. Peter

I didn't even know there was a shortcut.
So... what's the shortcut? Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Stubbsy, ok....I guess that was in the manual eh?
I just looked at the buttons and saw "FORMAT" on two of them and immediately knew it was a two button to initiate it from my F80 experience. However didn't realise you had to do it twice, guess it's a safe guard. Darryl (aka Kipper)

I noticed your question Leigh... It's the two buttons with Format marked in red next to them... namely the single / multi-shot button and the backlight button for the top LCD... Cheers, John

Gee that'd be real handy being able to reformat your film in case you shot a bunch of duds. Cheers Dean I intend to live forever. So far, so good.

Hey it's not so bad. At least I know I'm formatting it completely intentionally. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Not sure that I would recommend this approach samester, there are a lot of buttons that do a lot of things..... Suggestion for all--- I know that reading the manual is considered to be a bit daggy, but I can tell you that you get more out of doing so after using the camera for six months or more than at any other time. You will be amazed at what you discover, and because you are familiar with the camera, it all makes sense. Greg - - - - D200 etc

That's funny I just found from this topic that you can format CF card using menu I formatted all my cards with buttons from the very beginning
After I set camera up as I wished on arrival I'm firing up menu very rarely just to change autofocus type, AF/AE lock button behavior or re-flash firmware Mikhail

i've used the two button mid roll rewind with my F80 in the past, kinda knew what was going on and left the rest to intuition. many thanks for your concern and advice mate.
touche gotta ask the question though, why is it so hard though to pick up a manual and read it cover to cover (literacy jokes aside) ? it's the same when assembling furniture or figuring out how to program a vcr - do it first, struggle, get it slightly wrong, read the manual and then claim a minor victory. btw, the manual has since made a guest appearance with me on the train
Samestar, I have read the manual twice. You don't absorb everything you know. Even some of the most senior of members on here didn't even know about it, so it's easily missed. I picked up most of the camera operations from the F80 that I previously owned. Read the manual a few times, but must of dowsed off about the two button format having to be pressed twice to work.

i use the menu enough to use it for formatting its not a bad routine seeing most of us forget to change iso. so use the menuits a good reminder. keyboards on your computers are for shortcuts.
shoot it real.
look! and see. Shoot and feel
I'm a nerd & proud of it.
Now I've got that out of the road... READ THE MANUAL You've got to be kidding. It's a badge of honour to get the $%#$ thing working without reading the manual! Of course in those furtive little moments when no one is looking I take a sly peek (hence I knew about the 2 button format - just don't let on OK) Peter
