What should I expect to pay for a Sandisk UltraII 1GB card?

Around $150... but why bother, Astone/Transcend for ~$120 is all you'll need in the D70. ;)

Oneputt,

Please refer to this thread:

I use Astone 1 & 2GB CF cards (45x) without any problem.

Cheers,

What benefits or features (over and above what the Astone might provide) do you expect that Sandisk to offer you?

Nobody outside of these forums will have heard of let alone would recommend Astone compact flash cards. Sandisk's Ultra line are universally heralded (or at least heard of) worldwide.

Not to take anything away from those here that use generic brand CF cards and have been satisfied.

I do appreciate the difference between satisficing and optimising, and I research deeper than others to make optimum choices when it comes to any purchases I make. There are only a handful of CF controller manufacturers in the world. Sandisk is one, and they make their own controllers that goes into their flash memory products. Who knows who makes the flash memory circuitry and interface controller of generic name CF cards such as Astone and/or Transcend? It could even vary by batches - courtesy of the lowest parts bidder...

Speed issues aside (the Ultra II is faster for data transfer), the extra $$ spent on Sandisk buys you peace of mind. Some reported issues with this generic brand as used by other members on here attest to that fact.

I have never experienced any problems under any circumstances with flash memory in my life. I exclusively use Sandisk Ultra II on my D70 and I'm not about to change.

(Sorry, it must be the full moon making me stubborn....)

Mmm, interesting thoughts Onyx. I'm using 2 X 1 GB Transcend 45X cards and have had no troubles, though I'd hardly call Transcend 'generic'.

Mikhail: looking at HK prices, probably around $100? Maybe $20-30 more for Sandisk UltraII etc.

Onyx,
The problems you put in your post, actually "User error" or "software error" and other "issues" from Killakoala and Leigh, these isuues posted as sourcing the solution or looking for problems in the card or camera or software, none of these issues had been narrowing down with conclusion of a bad cards or bad brand, though Sandisk, Lexar also have their own dodgy cards same as other brands.

I did not get any Astone or Transcend cards return from members since August last year.

Fast or not fast are the story and experiences to tell from members.
