Request Images from Nikkor 28-70mm + 17-55mm

Postby wendellt on Thu Jun 16, 2005 12:19 pm

Hi everyone

Anybody got example images taken with a Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8
Image
you can do 100% crops of images if you like because i would like to see the image quality produced by that lens

I would also like to see image examples of what a Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 can produce

Wendell, have changed your heading and text to 28-70 as the 28-80 is not 2.8 and not comparable with the 17-55 (also changed as not right, no 35-55). Your pics show 17-55 and 28-70, both 2.8 so have changed to reflect that, otherwise you may get no replies for lenses which don't exist

wendellt,
The only thing can do the image comparison and image quality on these lens is come to the mini meet, put the lenses on the camera, take photo with it, go home with the CF card and play it yourself.
These are two Nikon gems and they ain't cheap + not so many people have these lenses in their hand.

Wendell: why not come to a mini-meet and try them out? Both are great lenses, but you certainly pay for it. ;) There is a nice review thread here on the 17-55 DX started by JordanP, and Birdy has the both, but I doubt web-size jpgs are really going to do them justice.

Hi MCWB
I know web sized jpegs wont do them justice but even a 5cm crop at 100% and saved as jpeg 61% should give me a general idea, I will go to the minimeet, I was just interested in seeing if anybody had examples on hand

great image of the week by the way!

thankyou

Birddog I will be at the minimeet this saturday

I was convinced that I had a 28-80 sitting in my photography cabinet that I got as the kit lens from my old F60. :)

It's a heap of junk... but hey... it's still a 28-80!

(Yes, I know... it's not a 2.8...)

Well picked Leigh, I wasn't sure it existed either but checked and there were three versions a D, DN & G. The D's are all 3.5- 5.6, the G 3.3 -5.6.

Wendell, this link goes to Lens review sites, it is the first post by me on the page, will give you a few opinions on these lenses. Sorry don't have either myself (but would love to). http://www.d70users.com/viewforum.php?f ... ffd563cc21

thanks for the leads glen
I am leaning towards the 28-80 because of it's build quality and further reach[/quote]

You mean the 28-70.

The 28-80 is a piece of crap. It's a nice piece of crap, but a piece of crap nonetheless. :)

And I've just wasted my 2000th post telling everyone what a piece of crap the 28-80 is.

It's better than the 70-300G!!!

But not by much... because... it's a piece of crap.

One thing you haven't mentioned is this: what are you going to be using this lens for mostly?

wendellt,
Are you going to use the 28-80 on your D2x  I thought you meant the 28-70.
I also wonder: what are you going to use it for? I mean in photography with your top notch body.

Hi MCWB

it's going to be my main lens, so i can take pictures of architecture and architectural interiors, wide shots in low lit spaces and details shots of architectural features, i love cathedrals, baroque/rococo architecture and all the modern monuments.
I can also use the lens for future portraiture.
It will be a travelling lens so it has to be well built because it will take a few knocks

Leigh i always make mistakes i meant 28-70mm
