Blue Opera House

Last night, for the State of Origin final, Sydney council lit up the left side of the Opera House in glorious blue, I did not have my tripod so i improvised and grabbed a milk crate from a busker to take the following shots

8sec f/8.0 ISO100

20sec f/8.0 ISO100

30sec f/8.0 ISO100

After proving that a milk crate was just as sturdy and supportive as a Gitzo
I gave the busker $1 for the informal rental of 1x milk crate

Out of all of them, I prefer the first image.

The second photo, the blue streak is a distraction in the photo. Also not sure if it's because the ferry went past but there are streaks which look like banding in the photo.

Third photo with the disappearing lights is funky but it doesn't add much to the image i'm afraid.

4th photo, too much light streaks.

5th photo, different angle of the opera house (which is good) but a bit too over exposed. Some parts of the opera house have blown highlights.

All in all, very impressive though especially since you used a milk crate instead of a tripod :D

Wendell. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think you're trying too hard to be arty in your shots. The vast majority of what you're posting here is pushing the boundaries of photographic representation. Nothing wrong with that, but I'd like to see some more "traditional" representational shots from you too. You have a good eye for an interesting image or angle and the first and last Opera House shots are good examples of this. I just feel a little cheated when I see so many shots which I think would have been better but for the artiness of them. I know from the small amount of other work I've seen from you that you're very capable - I'm just greedy  Then again - I might just by an old traditionalist

Thanks everyone for your constructive criticism, keep it real!
In terms of traditional photographic representation, subject choice and composition, i'm workin' on it!

Certainly the first shot works well - and only a $ for a Gitzo - wow!

Nice shots Wendell...

I like the second one most.

Two things... and they're minor but a tad important for using the forum:

1. Don't push the width of the images past 1000
Not all of us have monitors where it doesn't force web structure changes to the page and push text and images off into the horizontal scrollbar realm...

2. Post in the right category!!!
