Please also check the portal page for more information on this. just found this forum site, didn't imagine there would be one like it. Just new back in melbourne, the d70 a new purchase after some swine stole my F80. Wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't for my Tamron 28-105 2.8 sp lens hangin on the front. That was a beautiful lens. oh well. shit happens. Melbourne is so much more opportunistic for photos, and I'm in love with my camera
If only I could throw myself at the ground and miss
Just joined this very useful site today after seeing a link at flickr.com. I bought my D70 & SB-800 in late November, fed up with missing photo ops (of weddings, dogs, kids, etc) when using my Sony compact digital.
I'm two-thirds of the way through Thom Hogan's D70 ebook, well worth the money. I'm in Donvale.

There's no substitute, however, for just going out and shooting. Go forth and make photos! g.

I can see the number of Melbourne's members are grown up now.
Should organize an inhouse mini meet with some other activities as CCD cleaning, gears talk, photography talk. Well done all of you, I hope one day I'll meet all of you down there. Birddog114

Birddog, I was just thinking about the potential of Melb having weekly mini meets but I don't have my own house right now, so can't really offer anything
Now to get the next meeting organised
Yes............another new member here.
Ive been weighing up the pro's and con's of D70 v's Canon 350D for a while now but desided to stay with Nikon and buy a D70s. I will have a D70s in my hot little hands from tomorrow onwards. Looking forward to meeting a few members from this forum in the future and perhaps getting some tips. Some of my photo's can be found at http://www.beema320.net/ taken with my current Nikon F65. *Warning - some of the scans are horrid* Jamie
Welcome Jamie
Nice photos on your gallery I see you've found the same spot as I with the night car photos Our next meet is on July 10th at 9am. View this thread

Just got to Melbourne 3 months ago from Perth. I'm here for a year for work.
I'm unashamedly a gearhead (had to get a hobby cheaper than doing up my car ). I'm discovering slowly that all this expensive gear can actually take good pictures - and I'm using that as an excuse to do the tourist thing while I'm here.
Welcome to Melbourne. Hope to see you along at one of the next meets. What's your angle? I mean what type of photography are you into?
Mark
I'm willing to try anything (but macro photography does not interest me as yet). I'm trying my hand at shooting birds, but am learning directly that my lenses don't have the range for all but the most tame ones.
I'm basically a tourist this year, but I don't really want to take the usual "I was here" snapshots, maybe learn a bit more about composition. I'm building a gallery at http://www.pixspot.com/index.php?cat=10343 but am in the process of uploading my least boring shots. Melvyn
Well there are plenty of places in Melbourne and it's surroundings so you'll never run short of places to go take pics at. Not to mention the city and all the events happening. Some weekends it's a matter of deciding what not to shoot.....
Mark
Suppose I should put my hand up too. I have a D50 and 2 dogs. I live in Romsey in the Macedon Ranges. 40ks past the airport for those that don't know.
Chris
Hi All,
I am from Geelong, and currently use Nikon 5700 Digital. I am hoping to update to either a D70, D100 or D200 soon. I shoot mainly aviation images, as a hobby. Is there a formal meeting place? If so, When and where? Stuart
G'day to all the new Melbourne dudes
Unfortunately the recent Great Ocean Road thing didn't take off, but with Chrissy coming up hopefully we could organise a Melbourne meet to get together and play on a week-end over the next few weeks The hardest part is working out where and when Aka Andrew
i know this is late, but only just saw this thread, im not exactly new now, but anyways... im from ringwood in the eastern suburbs of melbourne. i'm 16 (nearly 17 lol) and i use a D50, and loving it. have been doing slr photography for 6 or so years but only just made the wonderful step up to dslr in september.

G'day,
Jan 21st sounds good for me as a morning/day thing, I *might* have to work that night (bloody IT industry )but morning/day would be fine... Any pref for morning/day/night? Maybe we could get a few suggestions to cover morning/day/night so who-ever can make their stage can just catch up for that? Next part is where? People may be coming from all sorts of directions, so any suggestions? Aka Andrew
I'm interested in either weekend. Somewhere central would be good as I'm 60Ks north west of Melbourne.
Maybe if we get an idea of where people are coming from and preferences, we could toss around some suggestions?
Mudder = Eastern burbs, keen on early morning stuff, can carry three passengers in the car Aka Andrew
I'm keen and might bring along a friend.
Jamie = Western burbs, anytime is fine, also two or three passengers in the car if they are game. Just to throw in an idea and i dont think its been done yet either - the zoo. Jamie

G'day,
Melbourne Zoo's always good, need to get there by 9am though to get early light, midday it can be hard to get good eye definition with animals with a heavy brow like primates etc... Any other suggestions or wants Aka Andrew
I was thinking that we could go to Fed Square for the hour or so before sunset on Saturday the 21st. Maybe around 7pm. Fed Square has some interesting textures and shapes plus there is an opportunity for some street photos.
We could find a place and have some noodles or something either before or after. This is assuming that the rest of you don't have a life and need to go party on Saturday nights. Chris
I wouldn't mind trying to get some nice sunset hour shots from the Yarra or maybe some city light shots, but not sure whether I can make a late one though, I might have to do an early one due to work stuff on Saturday night...
Any suggestions/takers for an early morning somewhere? Maybe either some landscape thing/location? Daylight savings makes it earlier/harder but it's good fun though eh? Can take three passengers... Aka Andrew
I'm happy to go any time or even multiple times. I really need to take some pictures that aren't in the country.
I'm still in for Saturday late afternoon/evening. Fed Square?
Selling the house so need to be out in the garden during the day. Once it's on the market, I'll be able to do a morning thing. Chris
Hi guys, If it's late afternoon/ evening, I may well be able to attend. Alex
