Problems downloading from Nikon Asia website.

Postby mickwhit on Fri Jun 17, 2005 5:00 pm

Hi All,

I occasionally roam around the Nikon Asia website to see what new items they have out and what to download and I noticed one recently that might interest all of us as D70 owners.

An updated version of the D70 manual. It appears on their website that it was last updated on 11 May 05. That’d be nice to own I thought however, I have attempted several times to download this .pdf file and after I enter in all my login details (again) for the download I receive the following Error message:

File Download Error
There are problems in retrieving the file download due to one of the following reasons:
* You are not logged in.
* You are attempting to access the file from an invalid location.
* The file no longer exists.

I have written to Nikon Asia about a month ago regarding this problem and as expected there has been no solution to the problem. Still waiting......................!

I have tried other manuals also to see if the problem is isolated by attempting to download the Nikon Capture 4.2 manual. however, I receive the same error message.

Can someone else please log on to the Nikon Asia website and see if they can successfully download these .pdf files as this will eliminate if it is a problem on their website or a problem with my login/PC. (I suspect it's their website as I even created another login account with the same error message.)

Thanks in advance.

Mick.

Mick,

I have downloaded 29% of the pdf so far, with just over 35 minutes to go.

Remarks: very slow download rate. I am running ADSL 512k/128k

Mick

Is the pdf the one here

If so you need to provide your userid and camera serial no. Did you do this and it was wrong perhaps? If you don't get asked for this I wonder if this is in a cookie and you're cookie is wrong

I will continue to download, and then copy to a spare CF card to you to grab later on. BTW: 55% downloaded now.

G'day Stubbsy,

Yep. I entered in all my login details and camera serial number correctly.

I only receive the error message when trying to access those .pdf files. I can download other pdf files like the SB800 flash shooting techniques guide for example with no problems.

If my cookie is corrupted (which is possible) how do I fix it? I've tried re-registering with a different login name and it still doesn't work?

Thanks for the help though.

Cheers,

Mick.

Medium oven (175C) for 20 minutes.

Failing that, try a different browser.

And yes, it could be that your ISP has a transparent proxy that might be causing issues, or there might be an obscure timeout issue or an MTU issue between you and the host from which you're downloading.

Mick,

I just went into the downloaded pdf, and the following appeared:

There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.

Hey Thanks anyway Fozzie,

I thought it was too good to be true :-)

Thanks for using up your bandwidth for me though!

Speak soon.

Mick.

P.S Has anyone had any success downloading the updated D70 manual? I've even looked on the USA Nikon website but the updated d70 Manual with a release date of 11 May 05 is not on their site.

The revised version (11/05/2005) that I downloaded this afternoon was 14.2Mb, but could not be opened due to error.

Fingers crossed it installs OK

Awesome work Kristine! Thanks heaps.

I'm still puzzled why my PC and laptop cannot download this file but again my thanks to you.

Cheers,

Mick.

P.S Thanks to all those who also attempted or did download this file on my behalf. It's greatly appreciated.
