Master/Slave with SB-800

Postby Geoff on Fri Jun 17, 2005 7:08 pm

Hi all,
I'm trying to get the SB-800 to act as a master so that I can use the 2nd SB-800 as remote slave. I can get the 2nd SB-800 to flash with the camera onboard flash but not the 1st SB-800. I've skimmed through the manual but haven't found it particularly helpful. Have the 2nd SB-800 (off camera) on remote and it fires no problems from the onboard flash. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Oh, and thanx Glen for the loan of the SB-800 :)

Do you mean iTTL (aka. advanced wireless lightning) slave or SU-4 pseudo-slave mode?

If the latter, ensure pre-flashes are DISABLED (pg 73).

If the former, ie. the "proper" multiple speedlight mode, be sure to set up the channel and group correctly. Like how you have to select Group A channel 3 for the D70's on board to trigger a slave... Also, be sure your master flash is set up in master mode (the back LCD panel will look completely different), due thru the press and hold 'Sel' menu.

Probably very hard to explain in this written forum and harder to clarify - if you're still interested in say a week and a half from now Geoff, I'll show you in person how/what and why. ;)
